Memorable Games A brief look at some of the Tournaments most famous battles |
1999 Matthew Bentley 23 - 7 Adam May Famed for the 'Lascanon incident' where an Ultramarines dveastator caused a chain reaction that destroyed most of the Ork vehicle squad and sent half the Ork infantry off the table in turn one! May's only consolation was killing a Terminator with a Gretchin in what was a disastrous start to his OGC career on open day!

2000 Michael Pang 26 - 25 Adam May A game so full of carnage that nobody could guess as to who was the winner. Michael Pang squeezed through by a point as a Propellerheads song told of the winner after several tense minutes of score counting. The fact that this was a semi-final made it all the more tense and has gone down as possibly OGC's greatest ever Tournament game!
2001 Mike Brandon 20 - 16 Michael Pang Probably the greatest of Tournament come back, at the start of his third turn, Brandon had just a few points, and Pang looked to have all but won the 2001 Tournament. However he had misplaced his Farseer allowing for a charge which brought out the Bloodthirster, a few other key bits of shooting and a fair amount of luck saw Brandon tot up over a dozen points in the last turn and claim a hat-trick of Tournaments!

2002 Adam May 18 - 16 Michael Pang Revenge for May in a replay Semi-final. A slightly more tense game soon exploded into a spectacle similar to their battle in 2000 which again left everyone guessing as to who had come out on top, For May he was the victor and finally squeezed his way into a final!
2005 Luke Greensmith 18 - 15 Andy Townley In their opening game Luke surprised everyone with a hard thought victory. Despite the grinding nature of the game, the destruction and ultimately key moves made for a hugely entertaining start and sent Townley onto his 7 game losing streak!
2005 James Brown 16 - 12 Adam May The battle of James Browns becoming. After achieving his first win ever in a Tournament, people held it as a blip and May looked certain to seal his place in the last 4 with a victory here. However things were not to be and in a close game Brown kept on pulling out the surprises and continued a run that saw him reach 15 straight wins on winning the 2007 Tournament!
2006 Mike Brandon 16 - 14 Adam May Flagged by Luke as being the greatest 40k game he had ever seen, the 2006 Tournament opener had it all. Witty moves, unforeseen consequences and most importantly bags of entertainment, what had been tipped as a make or break game for the two former Champions came out in an open draw.
2006 Tim Harness 15 - 8 Monovie Asita Nobody saw this one coming. Monovie had picked up a strong win against May whereas Tim had been seen off convincingly by Brandon in his first OGC Tournament game. All Monovie needed was a point and a series of disastrously indecisive moves, Tim opened him up with a series of brilliantly executed counter-attacks that kept May in the Tournament!
2006 Mike Brandon 21 - 8 Simon Gray Claimed by Mike Brandon to be the greatest and most tense game he had ever played in, the margin of the score-line hides what was a viciously close battle. Simon had started alarm bells ringing as he made his way to the Semi's for the first time, and it became very much a 'chess-like' game of very very careful strategy, that was much appreciated by the crowd!

2007 Andrew Townley 8 - 7 Mike Brandon (AET) This Semi-final was the first in OGC history to go to 'extra-turns'. The game had been a dull affair and had ended 5-5 however the famous Bezerker plasma pistol incident saw Brandon have a move move that had won him the game at 7-5 backfire with a series of unfortunate incidents - a pistol exploding, 3 Bezerkers falling and then the unit fleeing. It was an explosive end to a drab game and cost Brandon his first ever Tournament absence form the final! |
