The Legion of the Damned
The Legion of the Damned are considered an irksome
legend of the Adeptus Astartes by the Inquisition, supposedly the victims of the
disastrous '21
st
founding' of Space Marines, from the Fire Hawks Chapter. This
founding was the first to not draw a gene seed from a natural super-human, or
Primarch and as such was the first foray into creating elite warriors from scientific
knowledge. This experiment supposedly went wrong, leaving those who had from
the chapter with a unique genetic flaw, some even registering as being dead, even
though they were seemingly alive. The fate of the Fire Hawks chapter was to end in
a warp storm whilst en route to some long forgotten battle, whether this was a freak occurrence or a deliberate
engineering by the Inquisition to rid the Imperium of these 'mutants' amongst the Astartes. However after being stricken
from the records of Imperial history, several decades later reports began to come in of miraculous reinforcements
materialising from nowhere, and delivering doomed Space Marine forces from certain annihilation, only to vanish once
the battle was done. Such has been borne of the legend of the Legion of the Damned, who in their flaming armour of
black, will be the salvation of the Space Marines in their darkest hour.
Are these enigmatic warriors the survivors of the Fire Hawks? Has their genetic flaw given them some
bizarre ability to survive in isolation? More importantly for the Inquisition, are these warriors tainted by Chaos, and
does the legend of the Legion threaten to sow the discords of heresy amongst the Adeptus Astartes? One thing is certain
amongst the Space Marines however, that in mankind's darkest hour, the Legion of the Damned will be there.
Legion of the Damned Army List
The following list is for the use of the Legion of the Damned as a complete army, rather than the 'allies' rules in
CODEX Ultramarines. Legion of the Damned cannot have allies, however in games where they will be allied with
another force, it must only be Space Marines, and contain no troops from the Inquisition.
Legion of the Damned armoury
Whatever the Legion of the Damned's origins, they do not possess the most modern technology that is wielded by the
Space Marines, as such, they have the following Wargear List, note that the Legion of the Damned use Mk1 Plasma
guns and Mk1 Plasma Pistols, rules for which are outlined in CODEX Chaos. Legion of the Damned may purchase
post-heresy weaponry, paying +25% points for weapons chosen from the Space Marine Wargear list, with the exception
of non-assault terminator weapons. Legion of the Damned Heavy Weapons do not have targeters.

Due to their nature of appearing from seemingly nowhere, and redeploying just as fast, Legion of the Damned
have a Strategy Rating of 6.
