Tournament
2007
July 7th 2007 : Southport
After last years Tournament went right to the wire in a tense multiplayer ending, the
4th OGC Magic Tournament arrives......
First Round (Singles)
The singles round began with last years 1st and 2nd playing, with James Fawcett
eventually grinding Mike Brandon's to a victory. However despite eye brow raising wins across
the board it was for the most part dead even with most competitors taking 3 wins from the first
round. Monovie Asita, who squeezed onto the podium in 2005 was dead last however with a
solitary win over 2005 champion Simon Gray. Defending Champion Mike Brandon managed to
pick up 6 straight wins in the first round. Luke Greensmith, known as the Magic bigmouth for the
previous few years had kept himself subtly quite however and had bagged himself an excellent
staging platform for the second round. Notable highlights of the first round, were James Fawcett
putting Luke Greensmith down to one life before being overcome, Luke being on the receiving of
such an event by Mike Brandon. Andrew Townley also pulled off a similar last gasp turnaround
against Tim Harness.

Mike Brandon managed to utterly dominate the multiplayer, taking control when key
players Luke Greensmith and James Fawcett practically eliminated each other. The timely use of
Jaya Ballard against James Brown was the major game event, Brown calling it treachery for
killing him, Mike defending himself by pointing out, without unleashing that card, Brown would
have killed him! In the end all but Monovie fell victim to Mike Brandon's deck, with Simon taking
him down early on, which proved a decisive factor in Simon's final position. James Fawcett's
sacrifice against Luke proved his downfall, leading him to place effectively nowhere in this year
standings, however Luke who also bailed out early, looked set to still make the podium pending
his excellent first round performance, until Simon snook into 3rd spot, following a close final
encounter with Simon and Mike standing off with Tim as a seeming puppet to both. In the end
Mike Brandon became the first OGC player to retain the Magic Tournament crown, with Tim
making an unlikely but first podium appearance, thanks to not flunking the first round, and Simon
making his 2nd podium appearance after his 2005 win. Tim was delighted to have made it to the
podium and somewhat surprised too, meanwhile Fawcett complained at an overweighting in
points available from the multiplayer and Luke seemed content, missing out just on his Magic
redemption.
