Mike Brandon finally being the first player to take the title from Simon Gray last year.

PLAYERS
Simon Gray Dwarves
The original 3 times successive champion, Simon was phased out of last years
Tournament by 2 extreme shooting & magic armies. Back with a slightly modified
but still characterful Dwarf army, Simon hopes to defy the rules logic and lead a
balanced army to victory, amid rumours he was going to bring his Bretonnians back
this year.
Mike Brandon
Empire
Finally won the
elusive Fantasy Tournament last year with an Empire tolled up
with guns, magic
and...knights! The points reduction this year eliminates the
ability for such
extremism, so instead the army is forced to take a more
structured 'turtle'
approach based around blackpowder. Will it lead the Empire to a
successful title
defence?
Andy Townley Skaven
Finally broke onto the podium last year, with a brutal Skaven Skyre army, which
shot everything in sight to bits. Managed to squeeze past Tim's High Elves in the
Semi by just 20 points but was bested in the final by the Empire who swung it with a
magic advantage. Was last year a one-off or will 'Charly' fight his way to more
success this year?
Luke Greensmith Lizardmen
Holds records in this Tournament only for terrible defeats, he conceded nearly 5000
Vps in just 2 games last year, Luke returns with his most successful army in this
Tournament, the Lizardmen, which almost took him to the Semi's 2 years ago. After
last years terrible showing with the Vampire Counts, it can only get better for Luke.
Timothy Harness High Elves
Claimed 3rd last year by default after losing in the Semi's to Andy Twnley's Skaven
by just 20 points, Tim brings his High Elves back once more, determined thisw time
that the final will not elude him!
Format
Uses the Warhammer Seventh Edition rulebook (Note the upgrades for the Dark Elves in White Dwarf
are banned), the only other restrictions are that Magic Item allowances are halved.
(Note also that the Conquerors Tapestry is banned and Battle Standards have been extended to Panic
tests.)
The Players are drawn into a single group, playing each other once. The top two will then advance to
the 'final' and 3rd and 4th will play the consolation game.
Amries are pickjed to 1,500 points, lowered from last year to reduce the ability for 'extremism' in the
lsits.
Awards are also available for Best Painted and Best Selected Army.

1st Round
Mike Brandon Vs Simon Gray
July 3rd 00:00
The opening game of the 2007 Tournament opened with a meeting of the 2003 &
2004 finalists. The game opened with the dwarf army surviving the initial Empire barrage
thanks to their 5+ ward saves, a unwelcome reminder of the Bretonnian's that had crushed
Mike's forces before. However, sharper than in the past Mike's huntsmen managed to get an
early charge against Simon's cannon, however they were beaten and chased off by the
stalwart crew. The effects of a new army book took their toll as well, and after factoring in the
old handgun 'experimental rule' which gave initial extra range from the previous Empire book,
Mike discovered it had in fact been removed, which disarrayed the initial Empire plans. The
Dwarves were initially successful, out-ranging the Empire with their crossbows, and causing
significant damage, however when the Empire line re-compensated, the battles was evened
out, with the Empire wizard beginning to swing things slightly in the Empires favour. In the
end whoever it the battle proved to be more of a firing range exercise, with the Dwarves
holding their combat units back under their ward save protection, and both sides exchange
fire. However with similar casualties on both sides, a Dwarf is worth more than an Empire-
man, and so the battle favoured the armies of man.

Luke Greensmith V Mike Brandon
July 5th 23:00
After missing out on a golden opportunity in 2005 to advance to the Semi's there,
Luke returned last year to two utter massacres. The only time these two have played in a
Tournament setting was in 2004 when Luke's Lizardmen drew with Brandon's Beastmen. 3
years on and the guns have replaced the crewed melee weapons of the beasts and Luke's
Lizards suffered immensely in the opening stages of the battle. The Slalamanders attempt to
deal with the flanking knights but poor movement and the charge bonus offered by the Steel
Standard allows the knights to easily run the fire breathing Lizards down. When the Lizards
finally seem to be closing, with a large amount of Saurus still around, Brandon took full
advantage of Luke's inexperience, and some careful retreat moves pulled the Lizards into
even more awkward positions allowing for the Empire lines to continue pouring fire with the
Knights causing a nuisance behind the Lizardman advance. The only solace for the Lizards
came when a pigeon bomb gracefully flew back to the Empire commander whose frantic
flapping and leaping must have made the pigeon assume he was a kindred spirit, suffice to
see the pigeon exploded and the Engineer was wounded. A poor start for Luke, and Mike
needed only a draw to secure a place in the final.

Tim Harness Vs Luke Greensmith
July 6th 01:00
Luke was setting up for a nocturnal straight run of games, now sizing up with the
opponent who had massacred him last year. Luke had to pull something here if he was to
have any hopes of achieving anything at this years Tournament. Tim's army, relying heavily
on Magic and shooting positioned itself around a small swamp, classed as a water feature
and in a similar fashion to Lukes previous game, the Lizards were forced to hail a heavy
projectile barrage which sent the Kroxigor and a unit of Saurus fleeing early on. Unlike the
Empire however, Tim's Elves lacked any mobile units, leaving the Lizards to continue a
headlong push towards the Elves, who could do little about the Skinks who were soaking up
much of their fire and protecting the more deadly units behind. Eventually a unit of just 3
surviving Skinks made it to the Elven lines and pulled off a charge which resulted in the
destruction of a Bolt Thrower and an overrun into one of the High Elf Mages. The
Salamanders had also closed by this time and gave the Elves a taste of their own medicine,
causing absoulte havoc and wiping out a unit of Spearman. Tim quickly realised he could do
little to avoid the incoming Lizards, and the surviving skinks which had pinned down his main
units fled through the water feature at the front of his deployment zone, the pursuing elves
were bogged down as the skinks escaped behind the Saurus, a costly ignorance of the
terrain. Suffice to say any Elves the Saurus touched were torn to pieces leaving Luke to claim
revenge from last year with a massacre of his own and the first of his Fantasy career!
Tim 420 Luke 1409 = Massacre to Luke
Simon Gray Vs Luke Greensmith
July 6th 02:30
Simon needed to turn things around after his opening defeat, and looked to cap
Luke's jubilation after defeating Tim. For the third game in a row Luke advanced into a hail of
shooting, although this time his Leadership failed him, and as the Lizards moved forward the
Skink screen would break but flee only a short distance leaving the Saurus behind to become
stuck. In Luke's own words, 'For a third of the game the Saurus could do nothing because the Skinks
were rolling around on the floor'. After this delay, the Saurus, in somewhat poor shape are able to finally
charge the Dwarf lines, however they are met with stern defenders and the projectile massacre is
mirrored in the melee. Its tough luck for the Lizardmen and they go down to a massacre by the Dwarves.

Andrew Townley Vs Luke Greensmith
July 6th 04:30
With Simon's withdraw Luke was into a chance at the podium regardless of what
happened now, however to get a shot at the final he had to gain a favourable draw at least here.
Townley had made it to the final last year after successive Fantasy 'ducks' however, and was
favourite to win this one. The battle itself needs little description, the Skaven Jezzails being likened
to the Old World equivalent of Lascannons and despite a headlong and screened rush the
Lizardmen did not survive beyond turn 5, being completely and utterly decimated, with their units
either wiped out or fleeing from the Skaven shooting! Luke's response was blatant, Get them the
fuck out of my face! spelling an end to his earlier high spirits. This result effectively ends Luke
chances of seeing a Fantasy final and leaves Andrew Townley leading the group, with Brandon
now second (with the result against Simon being discredited) and Tim last but with 2 games
remaining.
Andy - 1997 Luke 150 = Massacre to Andy
Mike Brandon Vs Tim Harness
July 8th 19:00
With 3 group games left, Tim needed to record a win to have any chance at the final. The
last time these two met was in 2005, when Brandon's Tzeentch mortals massacred Tim High
Elves. The odds were certainly not in Tim's favour here, with Brandon looking to make amends for
the repealed victory over Simon. The battle gets off to a great start for Tim however, his superior
range and higher accuracy devastates the Empire line in the opening turn. Brandon then suffers a
catastrophic moment as an engineer re-roll for the Mortar sees it explode taking the acting general
with it, gifting Tim 287 points, more than Brandon has conceded in either of his previous two
games this Tournament. The run continues when a cannon also explodes. This artillery related
disaster is soon recovered however when the Helblaster is wheeled forward, despite shooting and
the Rain Lord spell being aimed at it, and lets rip, shredding an archer unit containing two of the
High Elf wizards, a high roll then sees this unit flee straight off the table! However the entirety of
the Empire artillery is destroyed by the third turn. A middle battle lull is soon nullified by melee, the
Empire knights charging the Swordmasters, who hold firm, so firm in fact that the knights
immediately flee, only to be cut down by the Swordmasters! However the High Elf mage acting as
general is caught out and slain by the Empire Swordsmen, leaving the Empire army to dominate
the field and all but end Tim's chances at appearing in the final.

Mike Brandon Vs Andrew Townley
July 9th 23:00
A win for Andy or a draw would see both these players meet again in the final, the Skaven
were massacred at that stage last year and the Empire were aiming to send 'Andy packing and
give hope to Tim. The battle opens with the notorious Jezzails eliminating 5 Knights and damaging
both the Helblaster and its crew. However some sneaky Empire deployment allows for them to
chase off the Warp Lightning Cannon in the 2nd turn. The Empire artillery manages to do no
damage in the opening turns, until the Helblaster wheels into position and rolls 28, dispatching 9
Clanrats from range. The surviving knights charge and chase off a unit of Skaven slaves, revenge
for last years group stage, where 2 units of inner circle knights fled after charging a single unit of
slaves! The Skaven, occupying a dense position in the centre of the table where about to suffer an
extreme piece of destruction. The Comet of Casandora descends killing 14 jezzails, a warlock
engineer, 4 huntsmen, 1 knight, a ratling gun & 2 clanrats in just the 2nd turn! Such destruction
leaves the Skaven on the back foot and the Empire can close in. An Epic saga of the knight
champion begins......most of his unit die off Jezzail fire.....the 3 survivors charge a full unit of slaves
and chase it down, they survive the comet of Casandora with just one more dead, the standard
falls to Skaven shooting but the knights armour holds, he charges the remaining 3 Jezzails and
cuts them down....survived warp lightning......but is later murdered by it! The efforts and luck of
particular units in the Empire army allow for the Skaven to face utter annihilation by the sixth turn,
their surviving units caught in a charge by the Swordsmen, a second wipeout of the Tournament!
Mike - 1999 Andy 468 = Massacre to Mike
Andrew Townley Vs Tim Harness
July 10th 01:45
Although Tim was well over 2000 VPs behind Andy in terms of the table, if Tim could
somehow conjure an absolute massacre here, then he would advance to the Final. That said it
was a massive feat, and all the Skaven army needed was a few points on the board to ensure
Townley a second successive appearance in the Fantasy Final. The battle begins with bad news
for the Skaven as the Warp Lightning Cannon explodes, and the Skaven advance on the High
Elves is hampered by repeated Comets of Casandora, Although Tim reads the rules wrong and
rolls 1D6 instead of 2 for damage! However the High Elves do well in the first half, holding back the
Skaven advance with their bowfire, causing panics which impede the units behind. 3 Second Signs
of Amul keep things tipped in Tims favour and a Spearman patrol repeatedly beats off several
Skaven charges, Perhaps not enough for Tim but he looks headed for victory until the hitherto
quiet Jezzails open up and score 600 Vps alone in the final turn decimating the High Elf army and
turning things from a narrow but well fought High Elf win, to a convincing Skaven one! Tim is not
happy, and is resigned to battle Luke in the third place without a single Tournament victory, and in
the knowledge that if Simon had not withdrawn, he would be out already. Andrew goes to his
second successive final!

Mike Brandon and Andrew Townley meet for the second successive Fantasy
final, with Andy hoping to overturn the two defeats in last years Tournament and the
defeat here against Brandon. Luke finds himself in with a shot at third place, having
never reached a podium finish in any OGC Tournament before, and with the advantage
of having already defeated his opponent this Tournament, this could be a very
progressive year for Luke. Tim can consider himself lucky to have even made it to here,
and were it not for Simon's withdrawal through injury he may very well already be out!

Luke Greensmith's Lizardmen Vs Tim Harness' High Elves
Turn 1
Tim kicks things off, leaving his Elves firmly in their deployment positions. Tim suffers
ill omens in the Magic phase, rolling a miscast of Uranon's
Thunderbolt and re-rolling a one with the Second Sign of
Amul. The Elves open fire to little effect on the distant
lizards. In the reverse the Lizards do little but charge
towards their enemy.
Turn 2
Still no movement from the High Elves, however
the Magic phase results in the death of a Salamander and
bowfire takes down a few skinks. The Lizards continue to
push forward, and the Salamanders come into range of one of the Elven Bolt Throwers and let fly,
killing one of the crew, the other Salamander however lunches on two of the Skink attendants.
High Elves Turn 3
The High Elves suffer a poor Magic phase again,
however the Bolt Throwers kill the reaminding Salamanders
leaving their Skink attendants to run for their lives. Despite a
decent amount of hits of the Skink skirmishers from bowfire,
just 4 manage to wound, of which Luke passes 3 armour saves
on a 6!
(T 235 ;
L - 0)
Lizardmen Turn 3
The turn opens with the Kroxigors declaring a
charge on the Bolt Throwers. They elect to flee, and the
Kroxigor end up connecting with the Swordmasters. In the
subsequent combat the Kroxigor take down four but still
lose, but to Luke's relief they stay put. The Skinks charge
the Elven frontline, killing 3 archers but being unable to
break them. With the Lizards now right the Elve's face, their
room for manoeuvre was limiting, in a similar vein to their
earlier Tournament game.(T 235 ; L 200)
High Elves Turn 4
The blessed spawning of Tepoc puts a complete halt to the High Elves magic this turn.
With only archers left, of which on of the units is engaged, Tim continues to fire on the Lizards,
this time killing 3 Saurus. In the combat on the Elves right flank, the Swordmasters bring down a
Kroxigor but lose 3 in return. The Skinks and archers battling it out on the frontline lose 2 each,
but the dominating Skinks are unable to push the Elves back.
(T 235 ; L 200)
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 9
Lizardmen Turn 4
The Saurus charge one of the two non-engaged
Archer units up on the hill, there was no escape for the High
Elves now, and they were going to have to melee fight their
way out of this. Not advisable against the bulky Lizardmen!
Subsequenlty the Archers are decimated and cut up to nothing,
leaving the Saurus to overrun into the remaining archer unit.
The battle on the front sees the Skinks final break the High Elf
archers, however exhausted, they fail to catch the fleeing
elves. The Kroxigor slay another 3 Swordmasters, however, a
single wound in return is enough to panic the Kroxigor, who manage to escape the Swordmasters
pursuit. (T 449 ; L 455)
High Elves Turn 5
Knowing they have no way out, the High Elf Spearman charge the other Skink unit,
however they elect to flee, leaving the Spearmen to connect with the main and thus far unengaged
Saurus unit. Uranon's Thunderbolt brings down one of the fleeing Kroxigor leaving just one alive.
The spearmen manage to bring down one of the Saurus warriors, however 4 are eaten in return
causing the spears to panic, Although they manage to escape, they Saurus are now in possession of
their banner. Up on the hill, the remnants of the Elven left flank look to be over as the Saurus send
the remaining archer unit packing, choosing not to pursue however, with one of the High Elf
mages now in sight.
(T 529 ; L 843)
Lizardmen Turn 5
Although the Elven position looks doomed, there is still a job to be done, and a unit of
skinks manages to rally under the shouts of the Lizard commander, however the Kroxigor, long
now out of sight continue to flee. The main Saurus unit is left to deal with the remaining central
bulk of the Elven lines, with the other Saurus unit cutting a High elf mage bits.
(T 369 ; L 993)
High Elves Turn 6
It was going to need a huge effort to save this for the High Elves, and they began their
final by having the Swordmasters charge the flank of the main Saurus unit, the remainder of the
High Elf forces being either dead or unwilling to fight. A High Elf mage miscasts and suffers a
wound, and as a final joke, Tim who had just finished a history degree concentrating on Anglo-
Saxon interests faced a damning opposition score of 1066! However a colossal effort from the
Swordmasters sees them break the main Saurus unit and cut them down in the pursuit, also
claiming their standard and reclaiming the spearmen's one! However it didn't look to be enough to
the Elves.
(T 739 ; L 966)
Lizardmen Turn 6
The battle draws to an uneventful close. The Kroxigor rally, and the unforseen casualties
are counted, it was tight, and despite a brave defence by the Elves they were simply too docile for
the Lizardmen who could hardly miss their target. Its a historic moment for Luke, marking his
first ever podium finish at his eight OGC Tournament!
Final Score Tim Harness 911 - Luke Greensmith 1114 Draw!

Tournament 2007 Final
Mike Brandon VS Andrew Townley
Thursday July 12th 20:00
Almost a year on exactly since this same fixture last year, the Empire and Skaven meet again,
in Andy's fourth attempts to win, having been massacred on two of the previous occasions including
the wipe-out earlier this Tournament!
Turn One
The Skaven waste no time and push their forces
forwards, however a miscast from a Warlock Engineer allows the
Empire wizard to target the Skaven with a Comet of Cassandora,
the spell that decimated the Skaven earlier in the Tournament.
Subsequently it comes straight down in the Empire turn killing 6
Jezzails, a Warlock Engineer (and commander), 13 Clanrats and
wounding the other engineer, scoring a total of 365 points and
giving the Skaven a mountain to climb from the off. A unit of
handgunners, force a Jezzail unit to flee 13 in the shooting phase, Although some consolation for
the Skaven is sought when a pigeon bomb returns and kills 4 artillery crewmen in the subsequent
explosion.
A
0
M 565
Turn Two
Skaven fire manages to take down some of the handgunners, whilst the majority of the
Skaven army advances along with the rallied Jezzails. The Empire manage to destroy the Warp
Lightning Cannon with a Cannon ball, along with general fire from the rest of the Empire army.
The Helbalster forces a unit of Slaves to flee.
A 0
M 525
Skaven Turn Three
The Clanrats declare a charge on a unit of handgunners
but they flee leaving the rats exposed to a charge by swordsmen.
The surviving Warlock Engineer miscasts allowing the Comet of
Cassandora to be cast by the Empire once again! A Ratling Gun
attempts to fire on the Helblaster but instead manages to spin and
ends up killing 5 Clanrats and breaking the unit! The Jezzails are
the only Skaven performers, although they only manage to
wound a Cannon and kill a knight.
A 85
M 465
Empire Turn Three
The comment of Cassandora kills another 2 Jezzail units,
leaving the Skaven in a sorry state. The fleeing Hangunners rally as
the Swordsmen attempt to charge the Clanrat unit, who in turn elect to
flee. The Empire wizard miscasts and wounds himself, having only
done any damage as a result of the enemy wizards miscasting! The
Helblaster is the steady performer, accounting for 8 Clanrats.
A 55
M 765
Skaven Turn Four
Skaven fortunes were going to have to turn around fast, and the turn gets off to a good
start with both the fleeing Clanrat units rallying. With their physical guns all but gone, the Skaven
finally pull something off in the magic phase, as Warp Lightning kills 11 Swordsmen. The Skaven
weren't out of it just yet!
A 127
M 665
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 11
Empire Turn Four
The knights who had been carefully flanking the Skaven
army, now attempt to charge the surviving Jezzail unit, although they
elect to flee. The huntsmen now make themselves known and spring
upon a ratling gun, Although their bowfire is ineffectual. The
Helblaster accounts for 2 surviving Clanrats and scores a wound on
the Standard Bearing Chieftain as the Empire but a bit more light
between themselves and the Skaven.
A 127
M 902
Skaven Turn Five
The knights, nightmare returns as the Skaven Slaves
charge their flank, after exposing it in the Jezzail charge. The
wounded Chieftain shows no signs of his injury and charges the
Huntsmen who have none of it and flee from the table! Warp
Lightning accounts for 3 more of the Swordsmen who are too busy
wondering were all this death is coming from to flee. Some
positive but late damage from the Skaven. Eyes turn to the combat,
and it could go no other way, the
Slaves reinsert their combat dominance by breaking the Knights,
the third time they have managed to break a knight unit in 4
games!
A 424
M 902
Empire Turn Five
Safe gaming now for the Empire, not willing to make any
last minute blunders. The swordsmen attempt to charge the
Chieftain but fall short. Its no consolation however, as the
handgunners execute him instead! The Empire prepare to see if the Skaven have any last tricks up
their fur.
A 525
M 934
Skaven Turn Six
The last Skaven push sees the surviving Clanrat unit
charge a unit of Swordsmen and the Slaves charge a unit of
Handgunners. Warp Lightning kills 5 handgunners, reducing a
unit to just one, so close for the Skaven! In combat the
Swordsmen hold off the Clanrats, but the Slaves fare much better,
breaking the handgunners and allowing their pursuit to take them
close to the knights, meaning they have no chance of rallying! A
defiant but ultimately not enough final effort from the Skaven.
A 577
M 902
Empire Turn Six
In the final moments the Empire look to hut the Skaven as much as possible. The lone
handgunner avenges his brethren after managing to both hit and kill the Warlock Engineer! The Slaves'
success is soon halted, now in range of the Empire artillery, a grapeshot sees them utterly annihilated.
The surviving 5 swordsmen hold off the Skaven Clanrats. The battle ends with the Empire pushed
back, but ultimately firm against a decimated Skaven army.
Final Score Andrew Townley 555 - Mike Brandon 1574 Massacre!
Townley falls at the final hurdle again, despite a much more impressive performance this year.
Mike Brandon however retains the title, having at least managed to defeat Simon Gray in the
discredited games. The Tournament has only ever been won by two people, and it seems a special effort
is necessary to change this. Luke Greensmith of course was the surprise, managing his first podium
finish, leaving the potential for an open an exciting Tournament when we return for 2008.

Luke took performance enhancing drugs?
In last years 40k group stage Luke turned up to
play Charly with a caffeine drink, called 'Power
Up'. After consuming this Luke claimed he was
'powered up' and went on to win the game. He
tried it again in this years 40k qualifiers although
it didn't meet with success he didn't play as badly
as predicted. This year Luke 'powered up' in the
Fantasy Tournament and achieved his first even
podium position in 8 years as an OGC player. Is
it down to performance enhancing drugs?
Note on the running scores
The running scores in the consolation and final games are only indicative and not
necessarily accurate. It is very difficult to track triple to quad digit scores that may de or increase
during the game and are provided to give at least the rough depiction of how the battle was going
at that stage. The final scores however are entirely accurate.
Brandon's closing comments
That's 2 in a row, although it was down to some serious luck in both the Skaven battles and the
Comet of Cassanova got me off to the winning starts I needed, knocking down the Jezzails before
they could be effective. The loss of the Skaven general in the first turn was a huge help as well, if
somewhat unfulfilling. The slaves proved to be the bane of the knights again and alone they
managed to score 329 Victory Points, if they had not fled in the last turn that would have been 429
for no return! Tournament wise, it was a little more challenging at 1,500 points, with magic
dominating less and having one less cannon and Helblaster and almost no magic compared to last
year. Simon leaving after just two games was a little disappointing, it was a harrowing opening
game and that was my most satisfying victory. Still, in his wake, I am the only OGC player to have
successfully defend the Fantasy title, I just need to take it again next year to equal Simon's record.
Sure the game has faults, but despite some of the crazy scores, there were still some hairy
moments, and it were not for my capitalising on my opponents mistakes, I may well have been
caught out. Roll on 2008 and the 6th Fantasy Tournament!
