FANTASY TOURNAMENT 2005
IN MOTION
The time has come for the third OGC Fantasy Tournament, and all eyes look
to see if someone can break Simon Gray’s double-champion spell.
BACKGROUND
It is a time of excitement across the Warhammer world as armies
pour into the Southlands in search of glory and riches. The
Bretonnian prince Aldarick II has convinced many knights to
join him in an exhibition to the southern jungles to earn their
spurs and gain huge political advantage back in Bretonnia. His
father’s brother whom achieved the rank of Grail Knight joins
the young but proven prince, seeking the visions of the lady in a
new part of the world. However eyes in the lost kingdom of
Khemri observe the Bretonnian movements as their ships head
past the coastline adjoining Nehekhara. Fearing invasion a force
is dispatched led by the old King Taharka to eliminate the
Bretonnian’s, and protect their lands. It seems that in order to
avoid the High Elf naval patrols the Bretonnian’s have instead
provoked a potentially more dangerous foe. As Aldarick’s ships
land ashore in the unchartered and forbidding ‘New World’
native eyes watch them from the undergrowth, spear and claw at
the ready.
To the north a disgraced Elven prince Aludin also seeks the
wealth and potential political revival of his family and with the
last of his estates exchanged for manpower, Aludin heads out in
an all or nothing mission. But the reason for his fall lies in his
secret alliance with the Chaos power Tzeentch, after his
discovery he immediately shunned the gods gifts in an attempt to redeem his status, and now an angry
pack of Chaos warriors pursue the elven prince with full intentions of removing his head in the name of
Tzeentch. Unknown to the high Elves they are heading straight into Skaven held territory, and for the
ill of the rodent defenders, they bring with them the ravenous Chaos horde.

PLAYERS
Group A
Mike Brandon – Chaos
Twice runner up, Brandon pulled of a few near miracles with the Beastmen last
year to make second. This time he takes a Chaos horde dedicated to Tzeentch in
an attempt to build on what he achieved with the Beastmen.
Andrew Townley¹ – Skaven
Third Tournament, third army. After holding up the rest of the players for two
years running, ‘Charly’ sends forth the Skaven. Inexperienced with a new army
and with an abysmal record, it seems unlikely that Charly will see more than just
first round action.
Timothy Harness – High Elves
A new player to OGC, this is his first Tournament and his skills are untried. A
long-term High Elf player, his fantasy experience could make him a real
contender. Whatever happens, you can’t rule out the unknown.
Group B
Simon Gray – Bretonnia
With two Fantasy Titles under his belt, Simon looks set for another successful
campaign. Despite the highly technical game last tournament with saw him
massacred, his Bretonnian’s were nigh on unstoppable, and Simon has every
intention of continuing that trend this year.
James Brown – Tomb Kings
A mass Fantasy under-achiever, again a few simple mistakes cost his Dark Elves
a couple of vital points that denied him a chance at the final last year. Can he
rally his Tomb Kings and finally make a go of becoming champion this year?
Luke Greensmith – Lizardmen
His abysmal 40k record is no different in Fantasy, although he avoided coming
in last place last year. Was defeated convincingly in the consolation game, it
seems unlikely that Luke will find any form again this year.
Format
Uses the Warhammer Sixth Edition rulebook (Note the upgrades for the Dark Elves in White Dwarf are
banned), the only other restrictions are that Magic Item allowances are halved.
(Note also that the Conquerors Tapestry is banned and Battle Standards have been extended to Panic
tests.)
The Players are drawn into two groups playing each other once. A win earns two points and a draw,
one. The winner of group A plays the runner up in Group B and vice versa. The winners of the semi-
final stages go on to play the final and the losers play for third place consolation. Any ties are decided
in favour of victory points.
Awards are also available for Best Painted and Best Selected Army.

1st Round GROUP A
Game 1 – Mike Brandon Vs Tim Harness Thursday 14th July 2005 15:00
Deep in the jungles of despair, the disgraced High Elf prince Aludin is woken and warned of
Chaos forces sighted elsewhere in the jungle. They were here for him, he had known this moment
would come, and now it was time to confront the root of his downfall and free himself of his fatal bond
once and for all. Ordering his troops to ready themselves the High Elf army set out to confront the
Chaos horde.
The High Elves launched their attack on the Chaos lines, the Chaos forces standing static as
the Elves approached, their powerful sorcerers pelting the elven lines with
magic. As the Elves neared the Chaos
battleline it suddenly leapt into life,
cutting down the approaching elven units
and sweeping aside the entire Elven right
flank. A lone bolt thrower, resolved to
avenge the sudden losses of their kin,
drive a unit of Chaos knights from the
field with a hail of arrows. The
swordmasters, the only survivors of the
Chaos counter attack charge the beast herd, exposed and alone on the
Chaos right flank. However the beasts manage to hold up against the
elite elves and a unit of Chaos warriors hit them in the flank,
resulting in a total massacre of the elves. The Chaos forces then
begin to surround the Elven prince and his few remaining Silver
Helms, and in a last desperate charge, the prince and just two
other Silver Helms charge the Chaos Warriors who had just
annihilated the Swordmasters. The two Silver Helms are cut
down but the prince avenges them, and between their lances and
his blade they eliminate the front rank of Warriors and they
break, allowing the prince the ride them down. Despite this
minor victory, the Chaos force is in rapid pursuit, and alone, the
prince escapes.
RESULT: Brandon’s Chaos 2081 – 869 Tim’s High Elves   Massacre
Prince Aludin escape back to where the rest of the elven host is camped and they are forced to flee the
area. Angered at their failure to kill that last remaining elf that was their very target the Chaos forces pursue into
deeper into the jungle
Game 2 – Tim Harness Vs Andy Townley Friday 15th July 2005 17:00
The remainder of the elf force retreats through the jungles, not willing to allow the Chaos
army to catch them. Directionless they end up in the Forests of the Viper, and surrounded by a
confused but battle ready Skaven force. The High Elves and Skaven armies launch themselves at each
other, clashing across the centre of the table. The Skaven Gray Seer releases the
poisons of the forests and almost entire unit of Spearmen succumbs to the Plague
spell. During the central fighting, a particularly suicidal slave unit lose over half
their numbers to High Elf spearmen but following an unmodified snake eyes they
hold on, buying precious time for the rest of
the vermin force. In the confusion of the
central melee an assassin springs on the Elven
prince but although badly wounded, the prince
survives and slays his would be assassin. The Silver Helms capture
the centre of the table as they pursue the fleeing Skaven and
plunge head first into the Skaven rearguard. Despite large
casualties, these Skaven hold as well,
and the Ratling Guns lurking on the
sides of the Skaven units manage to
cut down two Silver Helms in the combat. However the Silver Helms
finally break through, but the rest of the Elven lines are starting to suffer
from the combination of shooting and magic from the rats. Crucially in
the battle for the centre, a unit of Spearmen break the Stormvermin, and
4
the back of the Skaven army is broken. With the situation desperate and the High Elves moving in for
the Skaven deployment zone, the Grey Seer casts Plague on the Silver Helms, claiming the Elven
Prince. In light of this event, the Skaven army hold its ground, and a Ratling Gun wipes out one of the
spearman units.
KEY MOMENT – Charly forgets to declare charges in the Movement order and is refused after Judicator (Simon
Gray) gives the decision to Tim who obviously says NO!
The battle once again swings back into the balance as combat erupts across the Skaven lines,
claiming a unit of Plague Monks and Elven Spearmen. A final brave charge from the Silver Helms
breaks some clan rats allowing them to escape from the path of the Stormvermin. As a final act the
Grey Seer casts Plague on a 13, almost wiping out the Silver Helms. The final shooting sees a Ratling
Gun spinning around wildly.
RESULT: Charly’s Skaven 1770 – 1374 Tim’s High Elves   Minor Victory
Terror Moment - > As the Elves gain the upper hand in the first half of the battle, a particularly important
combat victory has Tim shouting “Yesss! Elves!” proving once and for all that all Elf players should be kept well
away from everyone else
Dejected by the loss of their prince, the rest of the Elves flee into the jungles, only to be
claimed by the disease that waits for all trespassers. The elven delegation is never heard from on
Ulthuan again.
Game 3 – Andy Townley Vs Mike Brandon Friday 15th July 2005 21:00
The Chaos Lord halted, there was a change in the air…The Elven prince was dead! This was a
grave situation, though their target had been killed, it was not by their hand and Tzeentch would be not
best pleased. Identifying the perpetrators, Chaos Lord guided his army with the power of his mind to a
small deserted settlement, a gateway to the Skaven lair. As the Chaos forces reached this, the Skaven
forces arrived on the field, to find their dwellings under threat.
As the Skaven return form their ordeal with the Elves they
find a Chaos force on their doorstep. The Chaos army begins by
charging the and destroying the dwellings, giving clear lines for their
spellcasters to attack the approaching vermin. A Warlock engineer
screams for the slaves pushing the Warp Lightning Cannon to just
fire it, resulting in the thing exploding as it targets the Screamers. The
Skaven halt, almost halfway across the table, and the two armies
spend several turns with only slight manoeuvring. Seeing what all the
commotion is about, a tunnelers unit emerges right in the centre of
one of the destroyed huts. In an attempt to blast them to oblivion, a Chaos Champion miscasts and
wounds himself. Meanwhile the beast herd, that had been slowly
creeping around the edge of the tree copse in the centre is
assaulted by gutter runners but they end up chasing them off, the
sudden surprise of a herd of beasts in their side causes a unit of
clan rats to follow their sly brothers. The main Chaos force begins
to advance, crushing the tunnelers before them. A skitterleaping
warlock engineer gets behind the Chaos lines, but ends up fleeing
before the firewyrm. The Skaven slowly begin to back off as the
Slaves are pelted with magic and the Screamers attack the ratling
teams. The battle ends with the Chaos forces holding the Skaven settlement.
RESULT: Brandon’s Chaos 900 – 109 Charly’s Skaven   Solid Victory

Mike Brandon scored every Victory Point in the game, and lost just 3 Gors and 1 Screamer!
With the Grey Seer separated from the main Skaven lair, chaos ensues, but this turns to panic
when the emerging Skaven find themselves surrounded by a Chaos horde, and the Chaos sorcerers
cleanse the underground tunnels in a torrent of colourful but deadly magical fire. The Skaven are
forced to relocate with other small dwellings and gather an army that can chase the Chaos horde from
the land.

1st Round GROUP B
Game 1 – Simon Gray Vs Luke Greensmith Thursday 14th July 2005 19:00
The Lizards watched the Bretonnian’s form the moment they left their ships. They looted
some small settlements along the beaches, but they were of no consequence, and
they watched impassively as the Norse settlers were wiped out. Now the
Bretonnian’s had turned their attentions inland, heading straight for the Temple of
Constellations and the Lizardmen knew they intended to sack it. They would meet
them in battle there.
The Bretonnian’s arrive at the Temple and seem unsurprised to see the
Lizard resistance. They sally forth to meet the advancing Lizardman units. The
Salamanders flee before the oncoming knights, but the central unit of knights
betrays the lady and flees before the Carnosaur. Their brothers,
abandoned in combat on the Bretonnian right flank are ambushed
by the Carnosaur and Kroxigor as they concentrate on the main
Saurus line.  The beleaguered knights flee, but are caught and
killed as they reach the waters if a small shrine. Meanwhile a lone
Saurus bursts out of the woods attacking the damsels and causing
the bowmen to engage to save the children of the lady. Not
expecting to face such odds, the Saurus Commando escapes off the
battlefield, after carrying out its damsel-killing mission. The Grail
Knights however, smash into the lizard lines, sweeping round to single handedly crush the entire lizard
back line. The sudden change in the tide left a defeated lizard army to slink off and reconsolidate their
numbers.
RESULT: Simon’s Bretonnian’s  1921 – 786 Luke’s Lizardmen    Solid Victory
Terror Moment - > Simon unleashed the phrase “Proper Bob” and was forced to leave to think about what he’d
done for ten minutes. Luke was so unsettled by this stupid phrase that it may well have cost him the battle…or not.
The Bretonnian’s rampage through temple plaza’s, and take whatever they can, but the
presence of the lizards defending the temple sees the Bretonnian’s head off, looking for more glorious
pillaging. The Lizardmen, though normally without emotion, feel the anger within them. The temple
guard stand on the temple steps, watching their newly regrouped kin head off to track the Bretonnian’s
to their base.

Game 2 –James Brown Vs Simon Gray  Saturday 16th July 2005 00:30
Collecting their ‘earnings’ together on their beach located base, the Bretonnian’s begin
loading their ships with the priceless gold and artifacts they have gathered. Suddenly, scouts reports
something on the horizon, marching down the coast is a force of Undead!
The Bretonnian’s assemble a battle line and prepare to take on this new threat. The Tomb
Kings advance, an Incantation of Urgency guiding a catapult to kill 3 Grail Knights, following up with
two more in the shooting phase, also wounding a hero. The Bretonnian’s
advance despite the catapult attacks, but the psychic wails of the dead cause a
damsel to miscast and suffer a wound. The Tomb Kings meet the Bretonnian’s
head on, a Tomb Scorpion and the Cavalry attacking the Grail Knights. The
Casket incites opens and kills ten knights from two
of the knights of the realm units. In the combat
with the Grail Knights, the Battle Standard gets a
lucky escape after rolling a Ward Save of 6 from a horse strike, the undead
winning the combat but the Grail Knights holding. The unengaged
Bretonnian knight units are pinned by fear and dare not charge the central
Skeleton unit. The Grail Knights show more resolve, and the combat claims
a Liche Priest and a Paladin, however the Tomb King and his chariots
arrive to crash into the back rear of the knights. The following magic burst
sees two Grail Knights fall to Smiting, whilst Incantation of Urgency puts
the Skeletons and Ushabti into one of the unengaged units of knights. The
Grail Knights are finally annihilated, and a lone Lord flees for his life, the other knights also suffering a
similar fate. The one remaining knight unit grits itself and charges the skeletons, meanwhile the
bowmen finally finish off the Tomb Scorpion that they had been engaged with throughout the entire
battle. No sooner had they claimed this victory though that a Screaming Skull miracle shot sends the
6
bowmen from the table, if the knights aren’t sticking around, to hell if they are. The fleeing Lord gets
himself together, and turns around to find himself facing one of the giant Tomb Scorpion, he steps forth
to meet its challenge and after exchanging several blows, decides it would probably be better to get out
of there, but the scorpion cuts him in two as he flees. The knights in combat with the skeletons also
realise their foolhardiness and flee the table, leaving just a single damsel to discuss terms with the
undead.
RESULT:  Brown’s Tomb Kings 2372 – 408 Simon’s Bretonnian’s Massacre
Simon – “I didn’t walk into a trap, the trap walked into me!”
Brown – “Tomb Kings will be basking in gravy tonight” (???what???)
With prince Aldarick dead, his father’s brother has no choice but to sacrifice his Grail vow
and take on full command of the rest of the army. They regroup with the other Bretonnian’s who were
not at the beach, deciding to leave the area fast, as the Tomb Kings slaughter the peasantry.
Game 3 – Luke Greensmith Vs James Brown Saturday 16th July 2005 04:00
The Lizardmen arrive at the burning Bretonnian campsite, only to find a legion of Undead,
destroying everything and massacring the Bretonnian peasants. The lizards watch approvingly, until as
silently as they had slaughtered, the Undead gather into battle formations and square off against the
watching Lizardmen.
The catapult fires at the lizard lines, whilst small skirmishes
between skinks and Tomb Scorpions are fought across the main line. The
battles are brief but very bloody, and are broken up by the Carnosaur that,
under its newfound bloodfrenzy (or dustfrenzy- they promised steak!)
follows into the Skeleton cavalry, wiping
them out. The other Tomb Scorpion wipes
out the Salamanders and then chase some
skins. A last minute charge on the skeletons
by the Carnosaur is to little avail. The expectation of the lizardman army
that the Tomb Kings would advance led to them being much to passive,
and in a battle they had to win this proved a costly mistake, not in actual
numbers, but in knocking them out of the Tournament. (The lizards need
to win by 337 points to go through).
RESULT:  Luke’s Lizardmen 450 – 429 Brown’s Tomb Kings Draw
The stand-off ends as the Tomb Kings turn their forces and march away, their task of
wiping out the Bretonnian’s still incomplete. The Lizardmen rush down to the waterfront and
find amidst the charred ship and pavilion wreckage, all of the relics that had been stolen.

Brown comments: “In the words of Simon… ‘well..!’ What an extraordinary first few games after a while of not
playing. I’ve never seen such annihilation as the Bretonnian slaughter and Luke…most bizarre game ever. We’ll
see what happens next.”
Luke comments: “I didn’t actually perform badly, my complete inexperience showed through and I made
numerous idiotic mistakes. In the Simon game I was completely hamstrung by two rules I didn’t know. Simon did
NOTHING that seriously threatened me. The score shows what I did against Brown. Nothing. At all. I was over
paranoid when I had the advantage. I’m now ready for next year. I should have had some practice games…”
A look back
The insane power of the Chaos knights combined with magic overload saw
the Group A dominated by the Chaos force. The tactic of holding them back
and blasting the enemy with magic made for an unconventional but
unstoppable Chaos army. The High Elves only just missed out after that
single Plague spell completely swung the battle around, claiming a large
amount of the Skaven victory points in one violent round. A group that
proved just how dominating magic is in the Warhammer game.
Group B almost saw the upset of the whole Tournament, with Simon on the
brink of going out after a repeat of his first round massacre from last year
(Simon went down 1900-0 against Mike Brandon’s Beastmen). However Luke’s
indecisiveness and unwillingness to commit led to a boring draw rather than
a desperate slaughter. Brown’s destruction of Simon finally showed his
potential on the Fantasy scene, in what was dubbed ‘Project Justice’: the
attempt to knock Simon out of the Tournament.

Semi Final A Mike Brandon VS Simon Gray Sunday 17th July 12:00
The bruised Bretonnian’s head North, aiming to make as much distance between themselves
and the undead as possible. However it is not to be a straightforward march, and despite keeping to the
coast and heading through less densely they find a deadly obstacle in their path. The Chaos horde, fresh
from its picking against the Skaven are still hunting the Grey Seer when the Bretonnian’s come across
their path. There is no call, no diplomacy, there would be nothing here but slaughter.
As the Chaos army advances, the Bretonnian’s give a brief
prayer to their lady, which is answered immediately as the very first
Chaos spell miscasts. The surviving peasant bowmen unleash a hail
of arrows at the advancing knights, bringing one of the mighty
warriors down from its saddle. The Grail Knights, still led by the new
Bretonnian force commander find themselves with problems though,
as blessings of the lady cannot stop the power of the Chaos Lord’s
Red Fire spell which kills 3 if the elite Bretonnian cavalry. The low
hill which dominates the centre of the battlefield becomes the site of
the first melee, the charging knights of the realm fighting uphill
against the Chaos warriors, using the hand weapon and shield
combination rather than their halberds. The Bretonnian’s suffer as
their charge is met by death, but they continue to fight, determined to
break through the centre of the Chaos army.
For all of their magical prowess, a Damsel still manages to
unleash Master of Stone that kills half of the Chaos Chosen knights
as they lay ambush to the Grail Knights. The Screamers are
sacrificed to the Bretonnian cavalry who are then set upon by the
Beast herd and the surviving Chosen knights with the Chaos lord. The Bretonnian Lord declares a
challenge against his Chaos counterpart that is to ensue for several rounds with only the Bretonnian
suffering a single wound. In the centre, the Chaos warriors break the knights who in turn panic the
Bretonnian bowmen, both flee from the battlefield. The Chaos sorcerer on foot destroys the Damsel
skulking in the rocks. The other Chaos knight unit, after drawing out their Bretonnian counterparts with
the Firewyrm charge into the knights fighting them to a bloody draw, the Bretonnian’s relying on their
numbers.
The combat between the Grail knights and the chosen and
beasts comes to its climax and the beasts flee the battlefield whilst the
Chosen knights are run down with their lord by the Bretonnian’s just
after the Chaos battle Standard had been destroyed by the Master of
Stone. The Grail Knights follow through, and charge across the
central hill into the rear of the other Chaos knight unit, and despite
the Chaos knights wiping out the Bretonnian Knights of the Realm,
they flee under the onslaught of the Grail Knights, escaping from the
battlefield.
RESULT:  Simon’s Bretonnian’s 2005 – 1359 Brandon’s Chaos Solid Victory
Close: The final Bretonnian combat phase is where the game was one. Before the combat started the Chaos army
was winning, but the destruction of the knights along with the Sorcerer and the contesting of a table quarter and
capturing of a standard turned a Chaos victory into a rout, all in one phase!
The Tzeentch Lord had been slain, but still the god called for the blood of the Grey Seer, and
despite their losses the Chaos forces were to continue on. The Bretonnian’s regrouped with the fleeing
knights and bowmen and managed to pull a near complete army together again, though there was no
time to scorn the cowardice of the knights as now the Bretonnian’s had a chance to leave these lands.
Mike’s Comment: There is no resentment in this statement but when all but two Bretonnian units are left on the
table, your 700+ points unit with Chaos Lords charges one of those units in
the flank and then a 400+ points unit hits the other unit in the front you
expect to be getting a massacre. 30 ward saves later, no strategy can do
anything, I’ll admit my Chaos army was pushing the beard but even so GW
covered all corners here. I guess I learnt my lesson, despite two mega efforts
in each Tournament to beat the Bretonnian’s, unless I buy some weighted
dice, I shouldn’t bother if someone deploys Grail Knights. Still despite the
end score, I couldn’t have asked for a more exciting semi, it came down to
that very last dice roll to be made in the entire battle….which I failed. Here it
comes again…there’s always next year…
9
Semi Final B James Brown VS Andy Townley Saturday 16th July 20:30
The Tomb Kings marched North, determined to catch the Bretonnian’s and ensure the
protection of their own landing area. As they marched through the undergrowth, still impervious to the
normally poisoning effects of the jungles, they came across the Skaven lair. Whereas some may have
sought to go around such a danger, they simply marched through it, met by the scurrying panic that was
an assembling Skaven defence force.
The Liche Priest, set his Casket upon a small rising, but no
sooner had the casket guard laid down the invaluable construct, a huge
beam of Warp Lightning shot through the jungle and blew apart the
Liche Priest. The Skull Catapult responds by sending a unit of clanrats
from the battlefield. The battle takes place along a single flank, with the
impenetrable jungle on one side, and an uncertain clearing on the other.
Small skirmishes erupt along the lines, the Skaven Slaves destroying a
Tomb Scorpion whilst the second Scorpion engages the rat swarms and
annihilates them. The Gutter Runners emerge and engage the
hierophants unit, but are cut down in the attempt. Whilst spending too long trying to train onto a target
in the undergrowth, the Warp Lightning cannon malfunction sending it spinning and sending its charge
through a Ratling Gun, leaving the crew scattered around.
Three attempts to cast Urgency eventually result in the
Ushabti charging a unit of Clanrats and a Hieratic Jar is opened
to launch the chariots across the table and into a unit of slaves,
though one of the chariots shatters to pieces on some rocks. This
eruption into life of the Tomb King army coming as  the Skaven
are stranded on their right flank. The Ushabti chaos off the
Clanrats but cannot catch them whilst the Chariots annihilate the
slaves. Plague is cast on the chariots but to no avail, however it
spreads to the Ushabti dealing a wound but spreading to the
Stormvermin killing five of their number and wounding the
Battle Standard. It doesn’t end there, two Censor Bearers fall, along with six Plague Monks finally
ending up with the demise of 5 Clanrats. Despite this act of self-destruction, the Tomb Kings level the
odds when in the final turn of shooting the Catapult explodes, sending just 3 screaming skulls across
the battlefield.
RESULT:  Brown’s Tomb Kings 708 – 645 Charly’s Skaven Draw
After a brief but bloody encounter, the Skaven pull back into the jungles, and
the Tomb Kings resume their march.
FINAL – SIMON GRAY VS JAMES BROWN
The first round massacre of Simon by Brown would have this game seeming like nothing more than a
Brown shoe-in however just last year, Simon was massacred in the first round before going on to destroy the same
opponent in the final. He’s also gained a pair of Solid Victories in between that first round humiliation and now
whereas Brown has drawn twice. Its going to be a lot closer than before, and if history is anything to go by, Brown
really has his work cut out.
3rd PLACE CONSOLATION – MIKE BRANDON VS ANDY TOWNLEY
The first round game between these two was less than impressive, but the Skaven never seemed capable
of matching the Chaos forces either at range or up close. Brandon’s Chaos have still racked up the most VP’s this
Tournament whereas Charly has accumulated the least of the finalists, however its always possible that this could
be his first ever podium finish in this Tournament.
10
3rd Place Consolation Game
Mike Brandon VS Andy Townley
Sunday July 17th 21:30
The Chaos army had finally tracked the Grey Seer to its lair, and they wasted no time,
marching headlong towards the Skaven encampment, intending to take the Seer’s head and complete
the circle they had been led here to dance upon.
Sensing the impending danger the Grey Seer banished the Screamers with Warp Lightning as
the rest of the Skaven charged forwards to meet the Skaven advance. The Warp Lightning Cannon
misfires and explodes at the first attempt, again! Far out on a lonely flank, the gutter runners with the
assassin charge the beast herd but are completely
minced by the overwhelming beasts. The chosen
knights are charged by the Slaves and Plague
Censer Bearers but slaughter them, following into
the Plague Monks and ripping those apart too. The
other knights chase of a unit of Clanrats but are tied
up by the rat swarms. The Firewyrm, on its travels,
burns five Stormvermin threatening the Chaos
flank. The Chaos knights finally crush the swarms
holding them up before heading into the
Stormvermin. The Grey Seer, who had already
foreseen the danger and was skulking nearby casts
Pestilent Breath at the Chaos knights, killing two.
With the knights still standing the Seer then cats
Death Frenzy on the Stormvermin who proceed to
massacre the Chaos knights. However they are soon set upon by the Warriors who break them, whilst
the beasts and Firewyrm send a Clanrat unit fleeing. A group of Horrors emerges and chases after the
Grey Seer, who initially breaks before rallying. However the Skaven have been almost completely
annihilated.
RESULT: Brandon’s Chaos 1653 – 556 Charly’s Skaven   Solid Victory
The Grey Seer runs for his life, pursued by a group of Horrors, Tzeentch’s personal servants.
Satisfied that their task here is done, the Chaos troops begin their long march home, their task
complete but at a great cost, as atop one of the steeds lays the body of their fallen Lord.
Mike’s Comment: 3rd place? Sucks. I didn’t really expect any other result
here, after all this is Warhammer, some armies are just plain better at
fighting than others, no strategy included. I’m not pleased though, this
should be the final, but the ward save was waiting. Seems this
Tournament is becoming something of a red herring, its been a big effort
this year but despite coming oh so close it went wrong against the all
conquering Simon. 3rd, my head is bowed for another year.
Charly’s Comment: Overall happy with 4th, couldn’t hope to beat Chaos
with Skaven and I faced them twice! Game against Brown was
disappointing as my army performed well, 64 points in it! Will be back
next year with improved Skaven army.

Tournament 2005 Final
Simon Gray VS James Brown
Tuesday July 19th 00:00
The Tomb Kings finally catch the surviving Bretonnian’s in a small cove where their own
ships lie waiting. The undead have one simple objective, to wipe the Bretonnian’s out and stop any
more of these forays through their waters.
As battle opens, the Tomb Kings’ combination of Magic and standard firing sees the Skull
Catapult kill six Grail Knights almost immediately. However the Bretonnian’s are unphased and
continue their advance. The Kings Chariots and Spearmen charge the Knights of the Realm causing the
knights to flee, however trouble has struck early on as the Hierophant is slain
in that particularly melee and the magic that bind the Tomb King army begins
to unravel. The Chariots at least run down the knights.
The remaining Knights of the Realm charge the Ushabti whilst the
Grail Knights charge into the rear of the Skeleton Horsemen, smashing them
to bits. The Ushabti just hold against the
Knights of the Realm as attempts at
Urgency to relieve them fail. But soon
enough the Spearmen move in forcing the
Knights to flee, however backed against a cliff wall they are
utterly annihilated. With their faith in the lady shining through, the
Grail Knights respond to the massacre of their kin by charging the
skeleton spearmen, causing mass casualties, but the unit holds. The
crumbling begins to hurt though, especially when the Skull
Catapult collapses to dust. Elsewhere, a Damsel is knocked off her feet, before being cut to pieces as a
Tomb Scorpion bursts out of the ground. The Casket reveals opens, and despite the knights’ resolute
response, the peasant bowmen flee the table, once again leaving their ‘betters’ to do the fighting.
The Grail knights eventually destroy the Skeletons after a
lengthy and tiring affair. Seeing his army collapsing around him
the Tomb King commits himself to one final charge of faith,
crashing into the Grail Knights, but it is too no avail and he
crumbles before the knights, sealing the fate of the Tomb King
army. The one remaining Ushabti, still fighting on despite the
destruction of the rest of the Tomb King army is destroyed by the
surviving Damsel, casting Master of the Wood to seal the Ushabti
to a jungle-resting place. The Bretonnian’s regroup, the day is
theirs.
     RESULT:  Simon’s Bretonnian’s
1902 1222 Brown’s Tomb Kings Solid Victory
After comments
Simon Gray: “This was probably the closest I have ever come to losing the final. With the player
winning the game switching each turn, this game was a compete massacre on both sides. This was the
most fun game of Warhammer I’ve ha…And not too many Ward Saves came up…
James Brown: “Good game, well played by both halves. Felt like being on a rocket propelled see saw.
Not much I’d change. See you next year Simon.”
With the death of the Tomb King the Bretonnian’s seized there ships and prepared to take
them back to Bretonnia. Bruised and broken the campaign had been costly, and the knights said
prayers to the lady as the body of Prince Aldarick II was loaded onto a ship. The crews exploring
inside suddenly appeared shouting, the interior of the ship was filled with priceless heirlooms, enough
to allow the Bretonnian’s to return home gloriously! As the ships left the cove the bowmen emerged
from the woods waving and screaming for them to wait, the last they saw was the figure of Aldarick’s
uncle, their cowardice had cost his nephews life. A cry arose from the jungle and a rustling came
through the undergrowth, at least the peasants wouldn’t be waiting around for long…
In the undergrowth Taharka stirred, at least his detached skull did, sitting upon a mound of
dust. Surely he would not be abandoned here…
And in Nehekara it was noted how King Taharka had sacrificed himself to protect Nehekaran
shores from invasion.

Tournament Close: The third annual Warhammer Tournament ends with the usual suspects occupying
the top three. This time though, Mike Brandon has to settle for third with James brown getting a chance
in the final. However Simon maintained his winning streak, making that 3 wins in a row. Surely next
year he’ll be stopped??? Elsewhere, Charly through out his best performance yet, as in he didn’t place
last, and came close to actually defeating Brown in the Semi’s, coming on the wrong side of a draw.
Most surprising of all really was how close Simon came to being knocked out in Round 1, but Luke
Greensmith failed to pack the aggression that would have got him beyond the first round.

Extras
Project Justice
The origins of Project Justice probably begin at last years Fantasy
Tournament, were Simon took his second Fantasy title. His reign
was not a well received one as it were, and the power of the
Bretonnian army was particularly scorned. It seemed Simon was a
little too into his love of Ward Saves, after his prayer to the ‘lady’
prior to the 2004 final [pictured left]. At least Simon was a humble
Champion, but his victory at the 2005 Magic Tournament had more
than a few people calling for his downfall.
And so Project Justice was declared, the primary aim destroy Simon utterly
and prevent him from doing the first ever double in OGC Tournament history
(Fantasy and Magic). Brown’s victory in the first round gave great hope for
Simon’s downfall and with Luke just needing to beat Brown by less than 400
VP’s to knock Simon out things looked positive. However it is not to be and
Luke’s stutter against Brown meant Simon was into the Semi’s and facing last
years finalist Mike Brandon…. the next to try and bring Simon down.
Mike was more than determined to destroy Simon and spent much time coming
up with a plan to defeat Simon, seen pictured plotting a
grand strategy using some stones….the key was in
neutralising the Grail Knights. And close he came too, but in
the last few combat phases a certain
Chaos victory turned into a total defeat,
and a LD roll of 6 was failed on a 7,
sending Brandon’s Chaos knights from
the table and Simon into the final. Yes,
the prayers were working again.
Alas, Simon was once again in the final and once again facing an opponent
that had massacred him in the first round.
He’d overcome such a scenario before, and
could he do it again? However James Brown
was on top form this year, and some
attribute it to his controlled diet, usually
containing an exclusive blend of sugar
related products he had lost his hyper’s and had concentrated solely on
the gaming. However disaster struck and as Simon prayed once more to
the lady, raspberry ripple ice cream appeared in Brown’s possession….
And so it came to pass that Simon completed his double, taking the
Fantasy crown for the third time running. Project Justice lay in ruins
and Simon was free to let loose a oppressing cackle…until next year…
