40k TOURNAMENT 2006
IN MOTION
Tournament number Eight in OGCs long 40k history. Can someone break the
deadlock and become only the third champion of OGCs most prestigious title?
Background
Emperors Reach lies at the fringe of the Greater
Trident Sector's Imperial border. Following the
advance of Chaos, Ork and Necron in Trident
alike in the past century, Emperors Reach has
become a key focus in preparing a Vanguard
defence against the potential for Trident to be
used as a staging ground for an insurgence into
Imperial territory. Imperial interests such as
Lesser Trident, Auriantia and Port Isaac had all
fallen into alien hands, and thus Imperial forces
had withdrawn from the sector. The plans to
fortify Emperors reach were given haste when an Ork cruiser, fleeing Necron controlled space crash
landed on Emperors reach a decade ago. The Orks began to multiply and it was with significant horror
that it was discovered that Tyranids had also infested the original landing craft leaving two extremely
dangerous enemies running loose on the unclaimed arid surface of the planet. Astartes forces were
moved in to bombard the planet, however, Chaos forces, holding significant control in the Greater
Trident Sector began orbital shelling the Imperial battle cruisers forcing a withdraw. The Space Marine
forces had little choice but to withdraw and plan for a planetary assault.
The Chaos forces soon joined them, though their true intent became
clear with the sudden appearance of the Eldar, who had long since held
base son the planet, and only with the new congestion had their positions
been compromised. The Space Marines were caught between the Orks
and Tyranids battling for territory, and the Chaos forces aiming to wipe
out the Eldar. Things were to become murkier however. The Trident
Sector had long since drawn the attentions of the Ordo Malleus, and it is
under their guidance that the Scorched Earth policy earlier taken in the
utter obliteration of Lesser trident continue. And so the Adeptus
Sororitas arrived, intent on cleansing the planet with flame, bot from the
skies, but from the barrels of the righteous weapons. And thus the battle
for Emperors Reach began, and with it, the fate of the Imperium swung
in the balance.

The Players
Group A
James Brown Sisters of Battle
Came from nowhere last Tournament to become 40k Champion for the first time. In the last 12
months, James has gone from being ranked amongst OGCs lowest to its very best with an
almost flawless set of games since becoming Champion. Expect a similar performance this
year.
Odds 2 1
[Form last 6 months: 67%]
Simon Gray Tyranids
Despite a generally impressive record with the Tyranids, Simons lack of Tournament success
continued with them last year. However he poses enough of a threat to keep players thinking
and will be out to show that he can no longer be ignored, he hasnt been defeated since the last
Tournament.
Odds 8 1
[Form last 6 months: 88%]
Andy Townley Ultramarines
After last year embarrassment and a bottom of the group finish, Andys form has never matched
that of his 3rd place claims in 2003 & 2004. In major need of a revival of his 40k career, and
what better place to do it than in the Tournament, his Ultramarines are in full swing after a pre-
Tournament wipe-out of Luke Greensmith.
Odds 12 1
[Form last 6 months: 47%]
Luke Greensmith Space Marines
More defeats have seen Lukes abysmal records drop further over the past year. However a lack of pressure
is in itself an opportunity, and whilst Luke will not be expecting to advance beyond the first round, he can
cause enough of an upset to have a major effect on the Tournament, memories point to his defeat of Andrew
Townley last year. Despite a pre-tournament wipe-out he has also beaten Brown and May and drawn with
Brandon in the last few months, capable of an upset.
Odds 24 1
[Form last 6 months: 24%]
Group B
Mike Brandon Chaos
Stunned by James Brown in last years final, Brandon will be out for revenge and have a point to prove as
OGCs only 40k player to have more than one title to his name. Flirting with the Imperial Guard hasnt
wielded great results but his Chaos command has been flawless as ever, despite a pre-tournament defeat to
Brown.
Odds 3 1 [Form last 6 months: 62%]
Adam May Orks
Angered by his 3rd place showing after being bowled out the Tournament in last years
Semi-final against Brandon, May is out to make this Tournament his second crown. The
Orks are ready, are you?
Odds 4 1
[Form last 6 months: 67%]
Monovie Asita Eldar
A player whos form is dictated by his mood on the day, if he commits himself to the battle he
can compete with the very best, but if he allows himself to be ground down he stands little
chance. Made 4th last year, and only just lost out to James Brown in the Semi-finals.
Odds 10 1
[Form last 6 months: 50%]
Tim Harness Eldar
Failed to impress at last years fantasy Tournament, dont expect anything from Tims
first entry into this Tournament.
Odds 50 1

Tournament format
The players will be drawn into two groups of four. James Brown and Mike Brandon are seeded in groups
opposite each other, the rest of the players who succeeded through qualifying by rankings are randomly drawn into
the groups. The top 2 of each group will go into the semis with the Winner of Group A playing the runner-up of
group B and vice-versa. The winners then go onto the final while the loser will play the consolation game.
All group games were drawn into a random order to make the Tournament as fair as possible.
Awards are also available for the best painted and best selected armies.
Rules
The modified 2nd edition rules set will be in use all the restrictions imposed by 40k OGC edition will be in place.
Armies are to be picked to no more than 2,006 points.
Strategy cards have been outlawed and Mission cards will not be in use.
Games that end with 2 points dividing players in the group stages would count as a draw.
In the event of an exact draw in the finals, an immediate extra turn will be played to determine a winner etc

1st Round GROUP A
James Brown (Sisters of Battle) / Simon Gray (Tyranids) Andy Townley (Ultramarines) /
Luke Greensmith (Space Marines)
Game 1 James Brown Vs Andrew Townley Saturday 24th June 2006 14:30
The Tournament opens with the defending champion James Brown going against Andrew
Townley who suffered a 21-4 defeat in this fixture last year. The battle was a very one sided affair with
Brown capturing the middle ground and dominating the flanks
with his immolators and APCs. Andys Dreadnought pair
were annihilated early on and the Sisters swept around into his
deployment zone leaving the assault marines and veterans
stranded as an immolator burnt up his deployment zone. The
veterans were destroyed in a fire fight with two squads of
Seraphim leaving just a wounded chaplain remaining. The
assault marines restored much honour for the chapter however
by first taking down an immolator with melta bombs, then
surviving and killing the Canoness and her seraphim in close
combat and then moving across the blow up the other
immolator bagging around 8 VPs by themselves. However just a single assault marine and wounded
chaplain survived the battle, with much of the Sisters
force intact it was a decisive victory and was a
classic demonstration on how movement is king,
Andys static return fire approach was the key to
success in James own words and allowed him to
pick and choose his targets and dictate the victory.
Brown even lapsed to move into positions to at least
take out the final assault marine in his general relief
and confidence after securing that all-important
opening win. The score-line however was not as
domineering as the battle itself and Andy is still very
much in this tournament, losing to the group
favourite after all. Brown on the other hand has
proved that he isnt just a one-trick Necron.

Game 2 James Brown Vs Luke Greensmith Wednesday 28th June 2006 14:00
Brown takes on Luke in the second of the
Group A games, once evenly matched opponents, the
disparity has grown massively since the last
Tournament, Luke however quietly murmurs about
being able to hold Brown at bay and pull off a victory.
Luke immediately sets to task against the Sisters,
launching a large scale flank assault with his APC's,
however following what Brown dubbed 'The Ultimate
Ram', a Rhino destroys Luke's Razorback, causing the
turret to fly off and smash the following Rhino. Luke's
forces were all of a sudden bottlenecked and trapped
behind the smouldering APC's with the Sisters
controlling the structures around them. The battle for
the skies was won by default as Brown forgot to deploy
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 5
some 600 points worth of troops being his Seraphim squads and Cannoness, however as the Sisters
swept all marine life from the table, the Land Speeders crashed to the ground.
Brown was on his way to the Semi's with Group A still wide open for the however would join him.
Model of the match was awarded to the Sisters of Battle Rhino driver for its destruction of 2 tanks,
causing a disrupting bottleneck, and later exploding killing several nearby enemy marines.
RESULT: Browns Sisters 15 4 Luke's Space Marines
Game 3 Simon Gray Vs Andrew Townley Tuesday 4th July 2006 00:00
Playing the holding champion first was something of a
disadvantage as it put Andy[Charly] on the an immediate backfoot, forcing
him to have to win the remaining two group games. That said he was not
going down without a fight. His Ultramarines prepared a heavy defensive
line, all weapons poised to rain death on the Tyranids. However there was
one key weakness, whilst the Tyranids were forced to approach through
two bottlenecks, the structure which actually caused the restrictions to the
Tyranid advance was right in front of the Ultramarine deployment zone.
Consequently the marines only opened fire in significance numbers when
the Tyranids were right ion top of them, and though
devastating it was not enough. The Ultramarine line however
may have held where it not for the efforts of a rampaging
Lictor in their left flank. Whereas the right flank stood up to
the inevitable Tyranid assault,
the immediate destruction
wrought by the said Lictor
caused enough disruption to
allow the Tyranids to break
through the Ultramarine line
and ultimately cause enough
damage to win the game. Later Simon referred to Charly's holding the
line tactic as leaving the marines to be sitting ducks, 'accepting the
inevitable'.
RESULT: Simon's Tyranids 13 7 Andrews Ultramarines
Game 4 Luke Greensmith Vs Simon Gray Tuesday 4th July 2006 11:00
Here was a grudge match, not from what has happened
on the tabletop in the past, but rather what has happened off it.
Luke had to win to stop
Simon making it to the Semi-
Finals for the first time, and
keep his own chances alive.
After the late night action
against Charly, Simon also
had exhaustion working
against him. Luke utilised a
similar tactic to Charly,
waiting to pounce on Simon through several bottlenecks. However
as with against Brown Luke failed to amend his tactics once the
game was moving. He became obsessed with capturing a large
building that was occupied by a Lictor at the front of his deployment zone, consequently Luke
continued to pile marines into combat with the Lictor which had a total feast upon the marines.
Meanwhile the Tyranids took advantage of the one-beast diversion and leapt upon the marines
relatively unscathed, Luke making dreadful mistake with the positioning of his Land Speeders. Once
engaged, Luke pulled his marines out of combat to try and maximise fire with Plasma Pistols, however
they were simply pulled down, leaving Simon to claim a solid victory.
RESULT: Simon's Tyranids 16 6 Luke's Space Marines
The final games in Group A simply decided 1st and 2nd, and 3rd and 4th place.
Game 5 James Brown Vs Simon Gray Tuesday 4th July 2006 20:00
^ See the Lictor in bottom
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 6
Simon's 24 hour gaming marathon came to a close against group leader (in Vps) James
Brown. Ill omens met Simon's early advance with a spore mine
explosion killing 11 Hormagaunts. Simon then witnessed Brown's
master-stroke, as the Tyranids reached the half way point on the
table, the Sisters force powered behind them, with APC's and
Seraphim, leaving the frontline of the Tyranids, scrabbling against
the defending squads of Sisters. The beleaguered Tyranids were
then showered in Plasma, with no less than 5 plasma grenades
swarming the centre of the table, frying the Tyranid forces. In the
Tyranids deployment zone, the
discovery of Biovores being
Initiative 1 saw them crushed under
the wheels of a Rhino. By now the Tyranids were starting to thin, with
the Cannoness gloriously occupying the edge of the Tyranid
deployment flank, however she was soon set upon by a flaming Hive
Tyrant! A multi-melta, in the final purge of the Tyranids, dealth 24
wounds to a Tyranid Warrior, typifying the Tyranids day. By turn 3
just 6 Warrios, 1 Lictor and Hive Tyrant and 9 Hormagaunts remained.
The Tyranids were well and truly out-manoeuvred!
RESULT: Browns Sisters 19 9 Simon's Tyranids
Game 6 Andrew Townley Vs Lke Greensmith Friday 7th July 2006 00:00
Another midnight game, for the Group A consolation. In the opening turn Luke recited
'1,2,3,4, I declare a Dread war', the following shooting resulted in 2
James and 2 hits which blew up Charly's Dreadnought. Luke's plan was
in your face and for the first time in the
Tournament he succesfully got troops from
an APC, into combat on the other side of the
table, opening up a bitter close up melee
which ultimately fell in Luke's favour.
Meanwhile Luke used his Dreadnought and
Land Speeders to distract Charly's heavy
fire, tying them up for much of the game, although the Land Speeders went
down again to no return, much to Luke dismay, though they ended up in
positions they couldn't shoot from thanks to some terrible manoeuvring. The tie-up of Charly's fire, and
the destruction in Charly's deployment zone tipped the balance in Luke's favour, although it could have
been more convincing had one of Charly's marines not rolled [in Luke's words] '3 fucking sixes', and saved
a couple of victory points. Despite Charly's fair gaming record he is dumped out the first round of the
Tournament to no reply again, whilst Luke gains a consolation against the opponent he picked up his
sole win against last year.

1st Round GROUP B
Adam May (Orks) / Mike Brandon (Chaos) / Monovie Asita (Eldar) / Tim Harness (Eldar)
Game 1 Mike Brandon Vs Adam May Monday 26th June 2006 14:00
A real clash of the titans opens up Group B, the simple fact that either of these players could
lose at the beginning of the Tournament meant that there was the risk of an early exit. Brandon's first
turn heralded a terrible show of luck.
With the Orks occupying covered
positions, the Chaos forces advanced
into position, concentrating heavily
on the positions in front of their right
side of the deployment zone, under
light covering fire, however this
resulted in 3 ones, 4 two's, 2 four's,
and on the Sistained Fire Dice, 4
ones and 2 Jams, the only 6 that came out in the turn was in the
psychic phase, just to rub it in! The Orks launched two main attack
waves, the first assaulted the positions occupied by the Chaos forces, whereas the majority of the Kult
of Speed focused on attacking the few troops tasked to hold the Chaos left
flank. What was to follow was absolute carnage, the fate of the vehicle battle
on the Chaos left flank saw everything destroyed, save a Scorcher that limped
around the Chaos deployment zone like an irritable fly. The battle for the
centre of the table saw initial Chaos shooting causing the Orks to flee and
hide behind a sandbag wall. However
spurred by a pincer attack by Killa
Kans and a Dreadnought on one side
and bikes on the other, the Orks rallied
and joined in a frontal assault with the Stormboyz. A tense battle
ensued with the Chaos holding their positions but at a heavy cost
as the close combat went back and forth. Just as a Predator
rumbled up to swing the balance in the Chaos sides favour, an
Ultimate Force Krunch flattened the vehicle. The initial overrun
by the Killa Kans was countered by a Terminator charge, which
successfully cleared the Orks and themselves when a Killa Kan
explosion took out all the Terminators, a Night Lords squad, the
remaining Stormboyz, the other Killa Kan and the Dreadnought. As the some of war lifted neither side
had won any decisive victory resulting in a draw. The game was an amazing start to Group B, and was
heralded by Luke as 'one of the best games seen, a real showcase for the Tournament'.
RESULT: Brandon's Chaos 16 14 May's Orks [Draw!]
Game 2 Adam May Vs Monovie Asita Thursday 29th June 2006 13:00
The pressure was on Adam May to pick up a victory here against an out of practice Monovie.
The Ork response was swift and they were upon the Eldar almost
immediately, however poor deployment left
the wrong troops fighting the wrong battles,
and the Eldar capitalised hitting hard at the
Orks. As the Ork forces attempted to
regroup, the Swooping Hawks and Warp
Spiders, who proved to be a real
workhouse, destroyed their efforts to
retrieve the failing situation. Eventually the
Orks were pushed back and forced to take
cover as the Vyper and Falcon swept the front oft heir lines while the
Jetbikes began strafing their back line. Ultimately the Orks, after their
initial hit, collapsed, a final turn roll of 5 sixes on 6 dice which contributed to the wiping out of may of
the Ork squads hiding in cover, gave Monovie his first ever victory over the former champion.
RESULT: Monovie's Eldar 23 12 May's Orks
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 8
Game 3 Mike Brandon Vs Tim Harness Monday 3rd July 2006 21:00
Tim faced a difficult test in his OGC debut, facing the highest ranked player, and 4 times
champion who was in a must-win situation. Nevertheless, the close combat orientated Eldar army went
to the task in good spirits. The Chaos force dug in, anticipating a massacre of the Eldar force, who
lacked much of the heavy weapons that characterised their
race. However the speed of the Eldar surprised the Chaos
army, and the Dreadnought charged their lines in turn two,
its massive legs striding over the entrenchments. The speed
of which the Eldar attacked combined with a massive
underestimation of their abilities forced the Chaos army to
reposition themselves, but by the third turn the Avatar
joined the Dreadnought in the Chaos deployment zone, and
the Plague Marine's were abandoned to die, as the Chaos
forces fell back. Then a crippling Plasma explosion
dumped a huge plasma ball in the Chaos lines, racking up
marine casualties. The Avatar managed to absorb, 12
Lascannon hits, 8 of which wounded the War God, leaving
Mike to shout 'Fuckin Avatar!'. However, the retreating tactics managed to reduce Chaos casualties in
the long run, and they exacted enough of a toll on the Eldar to pull of a convincing win, still quite a
scare for the Chaos army!
RESULT: Brandon's Chaos 15 6 Tim's Eldar
Game 4 Monovie Asita Vs Tim Harness Tuesday 4rd July 2006 15:00
If Monovie could win this game he would qualify for the Semi's, and knock Adam May out at
the opening stages for the first time since 1999. The similarity in the army compositions was striking,
one being slightly more combat orientated [Tim] than shooting.
The civil war proved bloody, but it was poor manoeuvring on
Monovie's part and clever supporting of the combats by Tim that
decided the day. Monovie had his Falcon lose out in the like for
like firefight, and the same repeat for the Jetbikes. The
Dreadnought's fought to a
victory to Tim as well. In
the Avatar wrestling match,
Tim's Exarch ran in and
sliced the opposing Avatar,
also allowing Tim's Avatar
to strike easier. As May
commented, 'its like having a fight with a lad, and then his bird
comes over and bottles you'. The loss of the War God for
Monovie was decisive and the rampant forces of Tim's Eldar
swept Monovie back into his deployment zone, giving Tim a
comfortable win. Monovie had blown his big chance as Tim let
out his warcry: 'Elves in Space!'
RESULT: Tim's Eldar 15 8 Monovie's Eldar

It was anything goes in Group B, though Brandon was was most secure, with it generally taking a loss to Monovie
and Tim winning to be ejected. May somehow still had a chance, after Tim's massive victory over Monovie, he
needed to beat Tim and Brandon had to beat Monovie to get through. Brandon could go through on a loss, if May
beat Tim by only a small margin. As for Tim, a draw would do as long as Brandon beat Monovie. So what
happened?...

Game 5 Adam May Vs Tim Harness Wednesday 5th July 2006 20:00
This was the big game, drawing a decent crowd. May confessed to
having spent his day in work working out a master
plan, he simply had to win this game. Tim was
absorbing the show on his 40k OGC debut, if he
could win here, it would be a massive
achievement. A nervy May got the game
underway, the Pulsa Rokkit and Shokk Attack gun
scoring direct hits, the Pulse then knocking 2
Eldar squads out of their own first turn. As the Orks assaulted the Eldar,
an Exarch was wounded and then
charged, but was splattered in the attempt!
The Harlequins then melta bombed the Scorcher's fule tank, the
Harlequin placing the bomb diving to safety as the remainder of the
squad rolled to low on 'its gonna blow!' and being engulfed in the
flames. The appearance of the Avatar in the counter attack, sends the
Stormboyz fleeing from the battlefield, Tim then roll's a lot of sixes as
the Kilt of Speed is obliterated. Both of the Killa Kans malfunctioned
and their Rokkit Launcha arms tore form their bodies. The carnage
though is won by sheer number and the Eldar are ultimately
overwhelmed. May pulls off the win he needs. Quoting 'Big respect to
Tim, good battle', whereas Tim reflects 'I went out with style'. Now May needed Brandon to win to get
into the Semi's.
RESULT: May's Orks 19 11 Tim's Eldar
Game 6 Mike Brandon Vs Monovie Asita Thursday 6th July 2006 13:00
If Monovie won here, both players would go through, so it
was down to seeing if he could pull it off. In the
opening turn, the Night Lords with Heavy Bolters
occupied a building with the Veterans overlooking a
huge area of dead ground. Monovie failed to realise
what was happening and lost all his Jetbikes almost
immediately. The opening in the centre was then
fought over, however, Monovie failed to see the
Chaos troops creeping up on the flank,
after the exchange of fire in the centre, the
Chaos troops fired into the exposed Eldar flank, causing heavy casualties.
The Eldar were now well on the run, unable to emerge through risk of heavy
return fire. The result was a comprehensive Chaos victory, Monovie was out,
and Brandon finally had some momentum with which to head into the Semi's.

Semi-Finals
A
James Brown
VS
Adam May
With Brown being so on form and May having scraped into the Semi's, May certainly has his
work cut out in stopping last years champion from reaching a second successive final. Brown
defeated May 16-12 in the first round of last years Tournament, so expect a close tie.
B
Mike Brandon
VS
Simon Gray
Brandon has never failed to be in a 40k final, for Simon this is his first appearance beyond the
first round. Brandon defeated Simon 15-8 in the first round last year, but Simon has come a
long way since then, and with 2 wins already under his belt, expect a tense encounter.

Semi Final A James Brown VS Adam May Monday 10th July 13:00
The first of the Semi-finals began with Brown desperately searching for some of his
missing Sisters of Battle. After a good ten minutes of frantic searching he realised they were
already deployed on the table. May rolled to move first, and the
Pulsa Rokkit struck the centre of the Sisters army, knocking
down most the army. Fire from the Orks also saw a Sisters
squad wiped out and a Rhino destroyed. The Orks were
definitely rolling, however, May failed to capitalise on the
initiative and instead was marred up firing form range,
obviously wary of the multi-melta's and flamers. However by
turn 2 Brown had recovered and had his Sisters in some very
awkward positions. At this stage the Orks began to go at the
Sisters, but their hesitation cost
them dear, as the Dreadnought
and Killa Kans were obliterated
in the centre of the table. The Sisters were by now striking at
the Orks all over table, the Seraphim dancing around causing
mayhem as they had become accustomed to doing this
tournament. The Orks were slowly pushed back, having failed
to gain any real foothold on the board, and consequently
suffered heavy losses. One of the Seraphim squads, having the
'choose any target' sacred rite, and
launched a daring assault on the Ork
Waprhead, skulking inside the main Ork line, however they failed
spectiarucarly, the Cannoness fialing to wound with her melta gun.
The Warphead returned the favour, unleashing Kop Dis' and
'Zidaneing' the Cannoness for a wound. The Sisters however had
pushed the Orks back, and secured much of the table. The day
belonged to the Sisters and Brown was heading for another 40k
final, whereas May faced the 3rd place play-off for the second year
running. Commenting on the battle May said 'never mind, just happy to be in the second
round', Brown pointed out the mistakes in May's tactics claiming 'May failed to use most of
his army'.

Semi Final B Mike Brandon VS Simon Gray Monday 10th July 18:30
This battle was interesting ground, Simon had never defeated Brandon before, but the
stage was set for a tense game, a lot of nerves hung in the air. The Chaos army moved first,
pushing the Plague Marines towards the centre of the table, the majority of the rest of the army
occupying the right of the deployment zone. A Predator and a squad of Noise Marine held the
Chaos left flank. The deployment of the Veterans in a tower, had severely cut
off the options to where the Lictors could infiltrate, pushing them back on the
Tyranid right flank. The opening Chaos shooting phase met some terrible luck,
both Predators with sponsons experiencing Heavy Bolter jams, and the rest of
the shooting that managed to hit, rolling ones to wound. The opening Chaos
shooting phase ended with a plasma gun exploding. The Tyranids, seizing the
opportunity swarmed through the cover in the centre of
the table towards the awaiting Plague Marines. The
Veterans in their tower laid down fire at the
Genestealers and Hormagaunts closing in on the
Plague Marines, meanwhile two Predators rumbled
below them to engage a group of Warriors. The Plague Marines managed
to devastate the rushing Gaunts with rapid fire bolter shooting, but the
Genestealers soon pounced. The rest of the Chaos army moved to drop fire
in to help their beleaguered brothers, but were bogged down dodging
Spore Mines and the newly arrived Gargoyles.
In the defence of the Chaos left flank, a group of Hormagaunts
were quickly taken down by the Noise Marines, but the advancing pair of Lictors caused more of a
problem. On the opposite side of the battlefield, the Veterans came to the rescue again in their
tower position, a Lascannon felling one of the Lictors. The Possessed Predator moved to engage
the surviving Lictor, rolling a one to wound when running it over, rolling a double Jam with its
Heavy Bolter and failing to hit with its Lascannons. The Lictor then tore the track form the
Predator and it went skidding out of control and off the table. The Lictor by
now on 1 wound from the Noise Marines, then engaged them who held it off
for the remainder of the game. The Chaos left flank had been devastated but
had contained the threat of letting the rest of the army be surrounded.
Meanwhile in the centre, 2 Plague Marines managed to roll three armour saves
each on sixes against the Genestealers and bought
the rest of the force an extra turn. This was utilised
to mop up the now unsupported Gargoyles, the
Terminator squad waiting in ambush sprang forth
and roasted many of the caught out Genestealers
with their Heavy Flamer. With the help of the Veterans, the Predators
on the Chaos right flank destroyed the Tyranid Warriors, and broke
through into the Tyranid deployment zone to take out the Biovores and
silence the Spore Mine menace. In the closing stages of the battle, the
remaining Genestealers were annihilated, along with the surviving
Warriors leaving a sole wounded Hive Tyrant remaining in the centre of the table!
Though the final score suggests a convincing Chaos victory, it seemed far from that,
and at many points things were looking to be in the Tyranids favour, were it not for the
bravery of the Plague Marines, the persistence of the Noise Marines or the outright sniping
skills of the Veterans it could have been very different. Commenting on the game Mike said
'It was one of the best and most intense games I've ever played in', Simon also commented on
an excellent and very tense game and was proud of his performance.

3rd Place Consolation Game
Adam May VS Simon Gray
Wednesday July 12th 13:00
In the bright summer sun, these two players cam together for the first time in a Tournament
environment with their respective armies. They had had 3 encounters in the past, May
winning two of them and the other being a draw, could Simon turn his fortunes around and
claim his first 40k podium spot and deny may who has featured on the podium every year
since 2000?
The Orks opened the battle in the same style to which they
had started every Tournament game, by knocking down large parts
of the Tyranid army with a scarily accurate Pulsa Rokkit shot. The
Orks however remain static much as they had in the Semi's
preparing to wait for the Tyranid
attack. The only exception being
the Kult of Speed that thundered
down the Orks right flank. The
Tyranids shrug this attack off and concentrate on the main
Ork line. The Ork counter-attack
begins, with the bikes surging
forward, but they are destroyed by
the massed Tyranids. The Lictors
burst forth to attack the Ork's left
flank, the Stormboyz managing to pull one down. The Killa Kans
and Dreadnought engage the Tyranid line but appear quite inept in
doing anything, and suffer damage from the falling Spore Mines,
leaving Tim to offer his wisdom, 'Killa Kans? More like Pepsi
Cans'. In answering the Biovire problem the Kult of Speed attacks
the Tyranid deployment zone, but are taken out by Warriors and Hormagaunts, leaving a
Scorcher to hurtle out of control, explode and kill a Biovore, achieving its mission in death.
The Orks were amounting a toll on the Tyranids, but the concentrated attacks of the Tyranids
was telling as the Orks were losing key parts of their force. An ongoing Psyker duel
culminated at the end of turn 3 when the Hive Tyrant felled the Warphead with Psychic
Scream. The failure of the Warphead would tell, when the Orks managed to wound all the
remaining Genestealers in a final turn push, but Simon saved 5
of them thanks to Catalyst. A Krak Missile then looked destined
to finish off the Hive Tyrant, wounded from the Psyker duel, but
it rolled its ward save.
As the piles of Ork bodies mounted Luke observed to
May 'Everyone's painted something in your army, its like an
OGC community project', however any community spirit in the
Orks was broken as surviving squads either fled or fell before
the Tyranid onslaught as it swept their lines. The Orks had
inflicted some heavy damage on the Tyranids, but it had been at the expense of their army.
Simon had pulled it off, his first podium position in an OGC 40k Tournament at his third
attempt. May had fallen off the podium for the first time in over half a decade!!!
RESULT:
Simon's Tyranids 19 11 Mays Orks
Final
Background: after Brown's shock victory last year, these 2 player meeting in the final does not seem so
strange this time round. Brown is in better form than ever, meaning that it offered no surprise if he
were to go on and win his second Tournament in a row, and attaining a new OGC record of becoming
the first player to win with different races. Brandon has never missed a Tournament final however and
has the weight of experience as well as some good form himself, and will be looking to avange the
defeat on his birthday last year.

Tournament 2006 Final
James Brown
VS
Mike Brandon Thursday July 13th 15:00
For the eighth OGC Warhammer 40,000 final, Luke arranged the scenery [later to be
disputed by Mike!] and let fly for the potential record
breaking game. The omens favoured
Brown as he deployed second and
moved first, occupying key positions on
the table, preparing to dictate the flow of
battle. The Immolators thundered on
two separate flanks toward the Chaos
lines, the reaction of the Chaos
commander was a suicide attack into the
multi-melta equipped variant. The
results were less than spectacular, the Immolator emerging unscathed and
the Predator being utterly annihilated. The shooting phase did little as most
Chaos guns jammed or missed. The Sisters got to work in their second turn,
wiping out on out of position Plague marine squad and consolidating some
excellent cover in the centre. The tank battle on the Chaos left flank ends
abruptly, the other Predator being destroyed by the Immolator.
The Immolator on the right flank however bore the brunt of the
entire Chaos army and was dispatched, the Cannoness was also caught in
the open but survived a massive fusillade of bolter's and heavy bolter's.
Pressed under massive heavy fire, the Chaos army, struggled to find new
positions, and things went from bad to worse when a Multi-Melta armed
Sister caught sight of the third and final Predators sponsors and rolled a 6 on the damage
chart, flash-backing into being a 6 on the hull, putting an end to the Chaos anti-armour
weaponry. At least for the Chaos force the threat of the Sororitas armour was nullified by the
wreckage of their own vehicles which trapped the Sisters of
Battle tanks behind a large copse. The
Chaos turn 3 became even worse as the
Chaos force failed to obtain a single kill,
thanks to the heavy cover of the Sisters
occupied positions and atrocious dice
luck. However by now the Sisters forces
were looking worse for wear themselves,
and failed to inflict much damage in the
final turn, the Veterans who had proved a massive thorn in the Sisters
of Battle side managed to wipe out the Seraphim that had been attacking their position in the
shattered Imperial Shrine.
The final turn saw each Sister of Battle squad reduced to half their number, each
being a kill out of scoring Victory Points! However despite the ill fortune of the Chaos force
which had been exemplified by some clever Sisters positioning, the Chaos force did seem to
have a stronger hold on the battlefield. The totting up of the victory points was a nervy
experience, even for those not playing, and as the final scores were announced.......
RESULT:
Brown's Sisters 11 - 8 Brandons Chaos
James Brown had done it! Two Tournament victories in a row, with two
different armies. Brandon expressed his hard done to feelings referring to his awful luck
all Tournament, but it was hats off to Brown who unleashed his extremely animated
victory dance exclaiming 'See you next year!'.

Story End: The Space Marines had been unfit for the task of cleansing Emperors Reach and had
allowed the Orks and Tyranids to get out of control. The Chaos forces had successfully eliminated
the Eldar, their purpose now being unknown forever, however in doing so the Chaos forces had
gained access to vast resources and built a stronghold on the planet. The task was therefore left to
the Adeptus Sororitas the Sisters of Battle, who successfully cleansed the
planet of the Chaos and Ork menace and freed the world for Imperial
construction teams to begin its fortification. However the Chaos forces had
been able to obtain several artificats form the Eldar camps as they made
their retreat back into the Greater Trident sector. And deep underground in
Emperor's reach their lay a terrible menace nesting and waiting, where the
main creatures of the Hive Fleet had failed, they had planted the seeds to
return anew, as a Patriarch incubated far below the planets surface. For now
though, the Sororitas were successful and it would be the Ordo Malleus who
would take command of the Imperial against incursions from Trident.
Tournament Close: That was a fantastic Tournament. It threw up some amazing games, in
particular, Brandon VS May and Tim VS Monovie in the first round. Both of the Tournament
Semi's were excellent and the final was a very close call. James brown triumphed however,
reversing his once awful Tournament record to instead having 2 Tournaments and 10 straight wins
under his belt, with 2 different armies! Brown also collected the Best Selected army award, just as
his Necrons did last year, they epitomised what a Sisters of Battle should be, and played up to it. It
was also a testament to the excellent rules set that is 2nd edition and thus why we still use it some 7
years after its official expulsion by Games Workshop. I myself picked up another 2nd place, I've
still got the record of most wins (4) and of being in every final! Simon reaching the podium for the
first time was great, meaning that 6 players and 7 different races have occupied the podium at
some point, only ones missing out in fact Imperial Guard, Dark Eldar and Tau, oh and Squats, but
they've never had a serious Tournament entry before. It was a shame that Charly went out so early
as his army was excellent to behold, being an excellently painted 3rd Company force of
Ultramarines. Away from the games, the Tournament also had a fantastic atmosphere, with
players camped out by the Arena, it was a manic 3 weeks, with plenty of time spent reflecting in
the local pub! See the Extra's section following the Appendix for some of the pictures surrounding
the Tournament away from the tables! This is also the last Tournament to ever be held in
Ormskirk at the OGC Arena, so its an excellent departure, and we'll sorely miss our venue that
housed us for over seven years! Now, Tournament 2000 has always had the mythos of being the
best Tournament ever but I think this year may very well beat it, it was a fantastic and
unforgettable time, we even reached the 'magic 8' number and had others who missed out! In the
words of the Champion....'See you next year!'
