40k TOURNAMENT 2005
    IN MOTION
Tournament number Seven in OGC’s long 40k history. Can someone break
the deadlock and become only the third champion of OGC’s most prestigious title?
Background
The discovery of a resource rich sector in the Northern Fringes triggered
significant Imperial scouting missions. They came back with the simple
diagnosis that the system could not sustain life but it could provide
significant wealth to Imperial parties willing to despatch parties to begin
mining operations there. Initially the work was carried out in secret by
Mars, away from the prying and greedy eyes of the High Lords of Terra,
however the discovery of Tyranids hibernating deep within the resource
rich planets led to a major panic in the Adeptus Mechanicus. However they
managed to call the aid of one of the renegade’ non-codex chapters of
Space Marines, the Subterra Chapter. Experts at underground warfare, and
willing to operate without reports to the Inquisition of Imperial central
command they slowly began the process of exterminating the slumbering Tyranids without waking them en masse.
However such an operation cannot remain secret for very long and soon enough, came the arrival of an Eldar host, keen to
extract as many recourses as they could before the Imperial forces dominated the sector. The careful processes of the Eldar
however at least did not disturb any of the Tyranids and so they were tolerated by the Imperial presence.
Then the Orks arrived. A recourse rich sector that was sought for by various races could guarantee the Orks a sustainable Total
War scenario, the Ork equivalent of a heaven. And so they spread to the sector with up most urgency, keen to dig in before
enemy forces gain too much of a strangle hold and then await the wars to follow. The Orks too were initially successful, tearing
into the planets to construct massive factories and planetary defences. The careful extraction processes of the Imperial forces and
the Eldar were the complete opposite of the Ork approach and soon the slumbering Tyranid synapse mind, the ‘commanders’ of a
Tyranid host were awoken and the brutal alien race emerged from their underground lairs and war suddenly erupted across the
sector.
The sector was a secret no more, and outraged by the secretive actions of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the High Lords of Terra
called upon the Ultramarines to eradicate the Subterra Marines for their ‘heresy’ and secure the mining operations in the name of
the Imperium. Chaos Forces from the Nean Dell sector who had been tracking the Eldar encryptions also arrived, following
behind the Eldar and beginning a grisly guerrilla war with the end objective of driving the
Eldar off and commandeering their mining operations.
As war raged across the sector a far older presence
watch with significant concern. The sector lay across a
vital access route to the Imperium for Necrontyr
raiders, and the sector was the closest point that they
could get to successfully calibrate their ‘teleporter’
equipment. And as things couldn’t get much worse, the
Necrons arrived and begin their industrial harvesting
process, wiping out anything that fell in their path. The
war was on, and recourses were no longer the only
thing at stake.

The Players
Mike Brandon – Chaos
Gained his 5th title last year and has been in good form since. Expect nothing
other than finals place and more than likely a close stab at winning the crown yet
again.
Odds – 3 – 2
Adam May – Orks
Showed excellent form at the Dissidence event in April and after defeat in last
years final he’ll be looking to regain the title he won in 2003. Even defeated
Mike Brandon convincingly in April so expect big things.
Odds – 2 – 1
Andy Townley¹ – Ultramarines
Showing mixed form, able to pull off victories against the bigger players but
slips up against the lower leagues. If he can survive any mistakes in the first
round then he could well go on to better his 3rd place finish from last year.
Odds – 5 – 1
Monovie Asita – Eldar
Slowly in proving in form but a little out of practice, Monovie is still yet to prove what he
can do. Disappointing last year, he can certainly wipe out the lesser players but struggles
to gain any footing against the real contenders.
Odds – 8 – 1
Simon Gray – Tyranids
Following an appalling record with the Blood Angels, Simon has turned to the brutal
approach of the Tyranids. Impressive at Dissidence, Simon is aiming for a 3rd place finish
and this is certainly achievable with the shock factor of the Tyranids.
Odds – 9 – 1
Luke Greensmith – Subterra Marines
OGC’s equivalent of a 40k training dummy, Luke managed to string together some results
earlier in the year but was utterly destroy at Dissidence. His frontal approach is unlikely
to make an impact. In trivia, his only Tournament win was against James Brown in 2002.
Odds – 15 – 1
James Brown – Necrons
Out of practice and absent from last years Tournament, Brown has a lot to do to regain a
footing with the Necrons. Expect little success unless he  can recapture past form that
could see him advance past the first round at the fourth time of asking.
Odds – 20 – 1
Tournament format
The players will be drawn into two groups, one of 4 and the other of 3, Adam may and Mike Brandon
are seeded in groups opposite each other, but the one that goes into the group of 3 is random also. The top 2 of
each group will go into the semis with the Winner of Group A playing the runner-up of group B and vice-versa.
The winners then go onto the final while the loser will play the consolation game.
Awards are also available for the best painted and best selected armies.
Rules
The modified 2nd edition rules set will be in use all the restrictions imposed by 40k OGC edition will be in place.
Armies are to be picked to no more than 2,005 points.
Strategy cards have been outlawed and Mission cards will not be in use.

1st Round GROUP A
Mike Brandon (Chaos) / Monovie Asita (Eldar) / Simon Gray (Tyranids)
Game 1 - Monovie Asita Vs Simon Gray Sunday 17th July 2005 16:00
The epicentre of the Tyranid emergence came in the Southwest of the sector, emerging from
the pits that the Eldar had opened up. For the unfortunate teams on the ground level there was little
chance and initially scores of Eldar facilities fell to the Tyranid swarm. An Eldar host was soon
deployed to engage and eliminate their Tyranid threat. Led by a
Warlock the Eldar set up positions and began pattering the
Tyranid lines with fire, the Warlock sensing the powerful
presence of the Hive Tyrant avoided an open mental engagement
and instead guided a Pulse Laser shot that eliminated then Hive
Tyrant almost immediately. In the woodlands the Swooping
Hawks landed only to be leapt upon by a Lictor but the monsters
assault fell foul (all 1’s to hit!) and the Hawks beat it off. The
Warlock, exhilarated yet afraid of the still present psychic mind
once again avoided direct conflict and guided a Pulse Laser shot
that neutralised the Zoanthrope. As the Tyranids finally begin closing the gap, still kept in line by the
Tyranid Warriors present, the Eldar fire begins to tell and the
xenomorph’s die in droves. Poor deployment led to some rapid
manoeuvring by the Warp Spiders but as they emerged to bolster the
Eldar lines, their Exarch was missing, lost in the warp. The
Hormagaunts, suffering horrendous casualties finally make it to the
Eldar frontline and rip apart the Guardians there, but the Guardians
soon surround and eliminate them. The battle in the woods swing the
way of the Tyranids, aided by the reduced effectiveness of weapons
fire they launch an assault on the vision of the Avatar, destroying its
presence on the battlefield to the sorrow of the Eldar forces [the
Avatar did take out a Lictor, 5 Genestealers and 4 Gaunts before
death though]. However this minor Tyranid victory is too little too late, and the dug in Eldar are left to
pick off the beleaguered Tyranid forces.
RESULT: Monovie’s Eldar 17 – 6 Simon’s Tyranids
The Eldar eliminate the Tyranids synapse in their area and re-secure their mining facilities.
Game 2 - Simon Gray Vs Mike Brandon Tuesday 19th July 2005 18:00
The Chaos forces deploy into hidden positions ready to strike terror raids on the Eldar facilities and
drive them out of the area. The inefficiency of the Chaos equipment failed to detect the Tyranid
presence in the area and as they set their positions they soon found
themselves facing a Tyranid attack. Whatever forces were watching
over the Chaos army, they were not kind and no sooner had the fighting
begun that the Chaos Magus was dragged into a warp rift kicking and
screaming. The initial Tyranid waves are pushed back by the Chaos
lines but they soon occupy most of
the battlefield. The survival instinct
of the Lictor tell as it survives mass
amounts of fire, the frontlines
however are more successful, gritty
holding the line tactics pushing back another Tyranids advance. The
bravery is soon forgotten though as another wave is too much and
they Tyranids leap upon the frontline, hitting it heaviest on the Chaos
left flank, causing it to pull back. The success of the right flank
though sets a trap for the Tyranids and any that made it through the
Chaos line are closed down and killed.
RESULT: Brandon’s Chaos 15 – 8 Simon’s Tyranids
This was the last major Tyranid attack in the sector, their major forces being all but wiped out leaving
the only encounter to be small skirmishes met by patrol forces. The Chaos forces prepare to launch
their attack upon the Eldar.
With Simon now knocked out of the Tournament, the last game of the group would decide the seedings for the
finals…
4
Game 3 - Mike Brandon Vs Monovie Asita Wednesday 20th July 2005 17:00
The Chaos forces emerge from nowhere, a plan seemingly well sprung were it not for the
abilities of foresight afforded by the Eldar and what the Chaos force
got was a head on battle. The scouting Territorial forces accompanying
the Chaos army emerged through the woods only to be confronted by
an Avatar, and consequently the students flee from the battlefield
before any major fighting broke out. The centre of the battlefield opens
up into a bitter fire fight which the Chaos forces emerge victorious
from and ultimately capture the centre. The major fighting took place
in a mining trench away from the battle for the centre. The Night Lord
Veterans holding the trench are
pounced upon by the Swooping
Hawks and they flee form the battle,
confused after the sudden grenade assault. A Night Lords unit that
had also moved up in support to the area were pursued their Veteran
brothers as the Warp Spiders deal them a similar fate. Understanding
the importance of the position though, the Death Guard Marines
assault the trench, and despite inflicting some casualties they are
completely annihilated, but their sacrifice was enough as the
terminators secure the position. With the battle swung firmly in the
favour of the Chaos forces, the Warlock attempts a Psychic Duel with
the Chaos Magus, attempting to assess the Chaos plans but somehow
the Warlock is beaten and is forced to withdraw with the rest of the battered Eldar force.
RESULT: Brandon’s Chaos 19 – 7 Monovie’s Eldar
With the facilities secured, the Chaos forces begin the extraction process to ship resources back to
Nean Dell. The Eldar are driven into the central regions of the sector, losing their operations and
becoming trapped in a crossfire that they will have to fight their way out of.

1st Round GROUP B
Adam May (Orks) / Andy Townley (Ultramarines) / Luke Greensmith (Subterra Marines) /
James Brown (Necrons)
Game 1 – Luke Greenmsith Vs Andy Townley Monday 18th July 2005 01:00
Nothing defines the Ultramarines better than their own pride and despite the chaos breaking
out across the sector their first objective was to eliminate the Subterra
Marines, choosing too secure the sector in the Imperium’s name alone
rather than bring the Subterra Chapter into custody later. Striking the
Subterra base directly the deployed Ultramarine forces face a prepared
assault. Defensive fire blows the Land Raiders track off sending it
crashing into the Ultramarine Predator, leaving the land Raider in an
almost useless position. The still operable Predator takes out a Subterra
Razorback but the subsequent explosion kills several Ultramarines
nearby. Attempting a holding action the Ultramarine scouts charge a
squad of Terminators but barely make
contact before they are utterly murdered,
leaving the Subterra Marines with the opportunity to use their remaining
mobile force to sweep around the flank of the Ultramarines army, whilst
the assault units clash in the centre. After brutal and costly fighting the
Subterra Marines capture the centre of the battlefield, in particular their
Captain, fuelled by Combat Drugs causing horrific casualties. The crazed
Subterra Captain goes on a lone mission and bombs the immobilised
Land raider but fails to get out of the way, as the exploding hulk spins
around, avoiding the rear as it come around but being crushed by the
front f the hull as it completes its destructive revolution. The Predator is
struck when an out of control Razorback crashes into it sending the Predator out of control also which
explodes when it smashes into a rock. In a last act of defiance, the Ultramarine librarian breaks cover
and brings some the terminators to ‘justice’ but it is one final act of bloodshed on an already piled
battlefield.
Survivors -> Subterra Marines – 5 marines and a damaged Dreadnought /  Ultramarines – 7 marines
RESULT: Luke’s Subterra Marines 18 – 15 Charly’s Ultramarines
The extremely high casualty rate does neither side any favours in the long war to come, but the
Subterra Marines at least hold their positions whilst the Ultramarines are forced to withdraw from this
attack.
Game 2 – Andy Townley Vs Adam May 18th July 2005 21:30
As the reports of the meatgrinder against the Subterra Marines come
in, the Ultramarines are already in operations against the dominant Ork
forces in the sector, aiming to curb this disruptive threat. The Orks are met in
a decisive battle at their major fort, and as the Ultramarines attack they are
met by droves of vehicles that pelt the blue lines. Almost immediately the
huge forms of the Land Raider and the Predator are
annihilated, easy prey for even the inaccurate Ork
guns. However the ground forces strike back,
eliminating the Ork vehicle squads, but it is only
the tip of the iceberg. The Ork Warphead attempts to cast Da Krunch but the
spell is destroyed and in the subsequent shooting phase so are the Minderz
and the Warphead flees the battlefield. The small victory for the Ultramarines
is short-lived however as their own Librarian is caught in a nearby Rhino
explosion and killed. The Ultramarines are forced into a last stand position as
the Ork ground forces surge forth, clinging on in small numbers but being
essentially destroyed.
Commenting on the battle May stated: “My army did fuck all, he brought it on himself”
RESULT: Adam May’s Orks 17 – 5 Charly’s Ultramarines
Battered. Broken and shamed, the Ultramarines are left with a tough decision between pride and a
tactical withdrawal. The Orks celebrate their first major battle of their newfound paradise.
6
Game 3 – James Brown Vs Luke Greensmith Tuesday 19th July 05:00
This battle was much anticipated being an old grudge match. Before this Tournament Luke’s only previous Tournament win had
been against Brown whilst Brown had never won a Tournament game before. Their past games include Luke being wiped out
without the Necrons losing a single model and a terrible 3-3 draw. Whatever the outcome though, it was sure to be a close and
exciting affair.
After observing the ‘lesser races’ slaughtering each other the Necrontyr
decide it is time to make their presence known, launching a raid on the
still recovering Subterra defence system. They strike without warning,
almost wiping out a newly equipped Terminator squad. The Subterra
Marines choose duty over lethargy however, and wipe out the rapidly
approaching Destroyer unit. The Dreadnought is beset by Scarabs
before being annihilated by an easily placed Reaver shot.. In the centre
the Subterra Armour looks secure at
least, until an Immortal crack shots a
Razorback (3 metal flays!), causing
internal explosions that kill most of
its passengers. The Warriors move in to finish it off with yet more
metal flaying might. A trench system secured by the Necrons though
is cleared by Heavy Flamers but the trench is reinforced and the
Necrons regain a hold. Mass close quarter fighting breaks out
concluding in a bloody stalemate. But the rest of the Necrons have
already managed to sweep the Subterra rear lines to secure the
majority of the battlefield.
RESULT: Brown’s Necrons 13 – 10 Luke’s Subterra Marines
The Subterra Marines are finally forced to concede their positions and withdraw from the planetary
surface and look for a new base. The Necrons plans have begun…
Game 4 – Adam May Vs James Brown 19th July 16:00
The Ork party atmosphere was gaining momentum as they prepared to dominate the sector.
Already their asexual spore shedding nature was converting the planets into
ideal Ork climates. As Orks queued en masse to board the giant hulks that
would carry them to other planets they were suddenly met by green flares that
destroyed the makeshift spaceport in just a few moments. As the Orks
attempted to get their full defences on-line Necrons appeared on the baron
plains. Angry at the intrusion the Ork mobs soon gathered and battle was met.
The first units to engage were the Destroyers that lay
fire on the Death Skull mobs causing them to flee
into nearby woodland denying the Ork forces vital
heavy weapons fire. The Warphead calls upon Gork
and Da krucnh crushes some of the Destroyers causing one to spin out of
control and collide with an Ork bike as it struck the ground. The advancing
Nobz are set upon by two groups of Necron Wraith’s but confident in their
‘orkiness’ the Nobz are unimpressed. After a brief but brutal fight, however it
is the Wraiths that emerge victorious. Despite suffering high casualties, the
sheer weight of the Ork numbers begin to tell and the Necrons are cut off into
small groups across the field. But ultimately the precision targeting by the Necron forces eliminates the
key components of the Ork war machine and the battle ends too soon for the Orks to press a killing
blow. The battle belonged to the Necrons.
RESULT: Brown’s Necrons 16 – 12 Adam May’s Orks
The Necrons vanish as quickly as they came, their objective of crippling the Orks military achieved.
The Orks begin the painful process of rebuilding their forces.

Game 5 – James Brown Vs Andy Townley Tuesday 19th July 20:30
The indecisive Ultramarines are soon punished for lingering in the sector. Caught at camp, the
Necrons intend to wipe them out and remove as much trace as possible
that would bring out further Imperial forces. The Ultramarines dig in
leaving the Necrons to make a full on assault, the forward scouts being the
first victims as the Wraiths materialise in their bunker. The marines fire is
cut as the Necrons close into disrupt range
and surround the Imperial position. In the
centre, assault troops lead a desperate
counter attack and despite some initial
success the Wraiths repair and rejoin the
combat, leaving the Assault marines to almost surrender in the face of a
seemingly invincible foe. The scarabs hop form tank to tank, met by
the singing of the Necron weaponry as it picks the perfect chord that
spells annihilation for the Imperial Armour. The Necrons pile into the
centre of the battlefield, massacring the remaining marines.
Survivors – 7 Ultramarines and a Rhino [assume they zoom off into the sunset]
RESULT: Brown’s Necrons 21 – 4 Charly’s Ultramarines
The Ultramarine force is wiped out. And the Necrons, whilst not controlling the sector, have instead
eliminated it for any domination form any of the warring forces. That is except for the Eldar and Chaos
troops in the Southwest…
Game 6 – Luke Greensmith Vs Adam May Wednesday 20th July 12:00
Following the destructive wake left by the Necrons, the displaced Subterra Marines use the
opportunity to strike at the Orks aiming to capture their already dug in
positions, and cripple the Ork influence in the sector as well. The battle
opens with mass vehicle destruction and a Rhino ends up road blocked by
a pile up of Razorback and War Trukk wreckage. The Orks held firm in
the centre, exchanging fire with the Imperial forces, neither side willing to
enter the no-mans land. The key thrust of the Imperial attack comes on its
left flank but the Orks managed to repel it, despite the complete loss of
their armoured divisions on that side.
A fair-trade though, as the Subterra
Captain is left dead amidst the
wreckage. The Imperial forces also
launch an attack on the lesser-covered right flank, managing to
destroy the Ork walkers, though suffering heavy casualties (mostly
as a result of the Walkers exploding). Some rash Ork bikers charge
across the centre but before they get anywhere, they end up a
twisted pile, of bullet-ridden wreckage, however their destruction
provides some points of cover. In the closing stages the Orks drive
the remaining Imperial attackers from their half of the table.
The battle certainly proved as memorable as it promised. Highlights;
In the final turn, a group of Gretchin took down a Terminator (they did a similar such thing back in T 99!)
Luke’s sacred Dreadnought assault Cannon did absolutely nothing all game (his reasoning for defeat)
Schoolboy tactics May- on last turn moved his jammed Trukk through Death Skulls meaning they couldn’t fire!
Luke had just 4 models and his Dreadnought remaining
RESULT: May’s Orks 16 – 11 Luke’s Subterra Marines
Salvaging the Imperial wreckage and left behind weaponry the Orks managed to speed up their
rebuilding process and find themselves at the same stage they were before the Necron attack. Things
were looking green again. The Subterra Marines were all but destroyed, however the survivors could
tell of how they bested the Ultramarine forces that had fought in the name of the High Lords, and not,
the Subterra Marines felt, the Emperor.

A look back….
In group A the table ended up pretty much as expected and the
battles flowed with predictable results. However Group B threw up
some big surprises. Firstly James brown, having never won a
Tournament game in his previous 4 entries (6 games), won every
single battle with an army that people were beginning to write off as
being simply not very good. Brown has proven everybody wrong and
shown what both he and the Necrons can do, commenting he said his
long 40k drought meant that he picked an army that was back to
basics, fielding mainly core infantry troops. And it has proven a
rousing success. Luke Greensmith however attributed Brown’s
success to everybody simply forgetting how to fight the Necrons, and
that Browns long absence was carefully planned. Adam May going
for the semi’s for a shoe-in (though the final for the last 3 years is set
for a repeat but this time in the semi-finals!) but Andrew Townley
massively under achieved, failing to pick up a single victory.
Commenting he said, “After losing a very close game against Luke, it all went downhill”. Luke
Greensmith can also take some heart, his Victory points were only in deficit by 5 and he fought every
game to the wire. James Brown’s success means that there will be an all-new finalist this year!

Semi Final A Mike Brandon VS Adam May Thursday 21
st
July 14:00
The Chaos forces begin consolidating their positions on the Eldar facilities, but no sooner
have they begun the resource extraction process that Ork vessels are detected as inbound. The Chaos
forces are quick to react and meet the Orks in open battle as they mass at the landing sites.
The battle opens with the death of the Chaos Magus, the
combination of Waaagh! And Kop Dis causing him far more
than just the worse hangover of his life. The overconfident
Orks begin their advance, but watching the Warphead
carefully on their target finders the Terminator unit spots an
opening in the Ork lines and the Warphead is shredded by
reaper Autocannon fire. The Chaos forces move into the
covered forward positions and begin facing the Ork waves up
close, the brutality escalates but the Chaos forces repel the Ork
assault. On the Chaos left flank a more calm battle between
heavy weapons teams ensues, both suffering poor deployment
and taking the opportunity to have a ‘best of’ competition
instead. The firefight ends in a stalemate though perhaps with
some favour leaning to the Chaos forces that at least took the
lesser casualties. The right flank though is were the battle is being decided, after repelling the initial
Ork assault, some of the Chaos units, still covered by their other comrades, storm the trench wiping out
the Orks there and securing the position. No sooner
have they achieved their objective though that
Orks are once again in their faces, but again the
Chaos forces dig in and crush the Ork assault. The
woods that divide the battlefield in the centre are
witness to a brief skirmish between a small Night
Lords unit and the Ork vehicles, deciding to avoid
their left flank. The Night Lords manage to destroy
the Scorcher and the subsequent explosion burns
down the majority of the wood, but somehow the
Night Lords manage to survive the inferno. With
the Orks only holding a weak right flank in their
own deployment zone, the battlefield is won by the
Chaos forces.
RESULT:
Brandon’s Chaos 17 – 7 May’s Orks
The setback of defeat for the Orks leads their remaining hulks to call off their attack, instead circling
the sector planets in a battle frenzied rage, determined to find something to fight… something to fight
that it could beat. The Chaos forces, their positions secure return to their mining bases to complete the
task that they were sent to this sector to complete.
10
Semi Final B James Brown VS Monovie Asita Wednesday 20th July 22:00
The Eldar forces are far from beaten and they set up a military base, intending to strike back at
the Chaos forces rather than attempt to set up new resource centres. But something was watching and
as the Necrons came for the Eldar.
In the opening stages of the battle the Necron Destroyers
homed in on the Falcon Grav Tank, still parked and unprepared for the
surprise raid. Seeing the huge skimmer go up in flame, the Warlock
responded with a desperate show of power, calling up an Eldritch storm
that sent all but one of the Necron skimmers into oblivion. The hastily
assembled Eldar frontline however, breaks and flees from the Necron
onslaught. The Necrons capture the trench network that was unoccupied
with the Eldar not being on alert status. The Warp Spiders and
Swooping Hawks immediately respond, almost completely clearing out
the Immortals there, however where even just one surviving Necron is
often a precursor to disaster.
Out on the Eldar’s right flank, the rapidly scrambled Jetbikes suddenly find their equipment
failing to respond, as Scarabs drop out of the sky and latch on. After their assault on the trench the
Swooping Hawks find themselves surrounded on the
other side of the woods, and end up being slaughtered
by the Necrons in close combat, but one lone Hawk
manages to fly high and escape the group from being
completely wiped out. The earlier efforts of the Hawks
and Spiders though pays as the Eldar secure their right
flank, however their left flank is home to several battles
and the surviving Destroyer and Reaver swing into the
Eldar deployment zone and pick off lingering Eldar.
The Guardians make use of the cover afforded by some
of the wreckage littering the field though and manage
to have one survivor form every squad. As the battle
draws to an end, the Necron Lord strides into the Eldar
deployment zone and only then does the Eldar War god
emerge, but only managing to stare down the Necron commander.
RESULT:
Brown’s Necrons 12 – 10 Monovie’s Eldar
The battle was full of some fairly amusing moments, here are three of the best:
Comedy moment -> When the falcon exploded a nearby jetbike was caught up and its rider was set on fire.
Going out of control in the following movement phase, it effectively that a ‘loop the loop’ and crashed right on top
of a Dire Avenger adding for a triple kill combo!
Comedy moment 2 -> A swooping hawk aiming to cause some damage to the Necrons in the trench network
had its Krak grenade go off on its foot! Obviously the Eldar was killed, crashing to the ground with one less limb.
Comedy moment 3 -> After a minor celebration from wiping out an entire Wraith squad, the Eldar are horrified
when the entire team repairs in the same repair phase!
Commenting on the battle Brown stated: “He should have charged the Avatar at me, he would have got
into my ranks and minced. The turn I got to shoot it I did nothing. It would have cost me my
Immortals and Lord. Leaving the Dreadnought alone was a good decision, it did nothing and
got me a victory point. The Guardians were slicey dice, I scored nothing.”
Sleeping space got a little cramped at this stage of the Tournament
and following this game, Brown made the most of what was
available, forming some sort of Necron cocoon ->
Final:
Mike Brandon Vs James Brown
3rd Place Consolation:
Monovie Asita Vs Adam May
11
3rd Place Consolation Game
Adam May VS Monovie Asita
Tuesday July 26th 14:30
The only previous meeting between these two was in the 1st round of last years Tournament were May
picked up a 26-9 victory. May also has the stronger Tournament background winning the title in 2003
and also having 2 2nd places and 2 third places to his name.
The displaced Eldar, confused and dejected failed to foresee the wrathful Orks that had locked onto
their position, and so a final bitter battle between these forces was to be fought.
The Orks in their battle lust and inflicted terrible casualties
on the Eldar in the opening stages, but once again the efforts of the
Warlock was of immense value to the Eldar, conjuring up another
Eldritch storm to cause chaos to the Ork vehicles, managing to
destroy two in the process. The Warlock then pitted all his will into
psychically duelling the Ork Warphead but the random pattern of the
Orks mind left the Warlock confused and he felt the arcane
knowledge of the Storm spell leave his mind as it filled with the
agony of Waaagh energy.
The dazed Warlock then
became victim of the
Warphead’s newly aroused attentions and the last essence of
psychic power were beaten form him before a well placed
use of ‘Eadbutz finished the Warlock off, his head
imploding under the psychic strain. The Orks swept the
battlefield quickly and the Eldar could not respond to the
overwhelming Ork numbers and firepower, and after failing
to deal totally with the initial vehicle assault, when the rest
of the Orks reached their lines it became a massacre. Only
the Avatar stood on the battlefield at the end, alone amongst
the annihilated Eldar forces.
RESULT:
May’s Orks 21 – 6 Monovie’s Eldar
Splatta Kannon mayhem
This unique and bizarre Ork artillery piece bundle of rocket
propelled scrap across the battlefield that bounces around
randomly as the rockets launch it across the field, causing
great damage to anything it collides with. At one point it
had a total of 18 hits taking out the Swooping Hawk Exarch
and the lone surviving War Trukk before coming to a halt.

Commenting on the battle Monovie simply said “I’m out of
here” whilst may showed his disdain on army selection
commenting “Shit army, not impressed”.
Final
Background: previous records do not favour James Brown who has won just one of the thirteen
encounters with Mike Brandon’s Chaos. 5 of those Chaos victories involved completely wiping the
Necron army out. However Brown has exceeded even his expectations this year and promises to be no
pushover this time around. The last time they met was in May of last year when the Necrons actually
picked up a 14 – 9 victory following a controversial Dawn raid ruling that was overturned just this last
February. The only time they have met in a Tournament was back in 2000 with a Chaos victory in the
first round.

Tournament 2005 Final
Mike Brandon VS James Brown
Friday July 22nd 20:00
The war in the sector was coming to its end. The last remaining Orks had retreated after
having some consolation with a slaughter of the Eldar. The Eldar god simply vanished, after collapsing
in defeat with the loss of the Eldar host. Now with the Chaos forces the only major force left the
Necrons moved too annihilate them and leave the sector free from any incursion.
The Chaos forces seem unsurprised as the Necrons
emerge form nowhere, quickly deploying to positions, after
weeks of surprise attacks and battles they were fully prepared for
this. However things were not going to be easy and the Predator
had its tracked blown off almost as soon as contact was made
sending it crashing into the mine. Its turret was also jammed
forward, leaving a solitary Heavy Bolter sponson as the only
thing facing the
battlefield. The return
fire from the Chaos
forces was poor, doing
little damage to the
oncoming Necrons. The Necron Destroyers attack the very
centre of the Chaos army, cutting it in two, but suffer heavy
losses from the crossfire in the Chaos deployment zone. This
proves a worthwhile distraction though as the rest of the
Necron army advances relatively unscathed.
The Night Lords Veterans are caught out in their
slightly forwards position when the Wraiths discover them
and they launch a counter charge to get at least some small
advantage. The Veterans manage to hold out, at least until a stray Blastmaster shot hits the combat,
killing one of the fighting Veterans and leaving the afflicted Wraith unharmed. The Veterans are soon
wiped out and the Necrons begin closing on the Chaos army, which is still struggling with the
remaining Destroyers. The Necron Warriors reach the edge of the Chaos deployment zone, the
battleline ling since pulled back.
The major fighting now takes place on the back of the Chaos lines and the bloody assaults go
in the attacking Wraith’s favour and the Chaos commander falls beneath a Wraiths claws in the final
turn. On the Chaos right flank some last minute counter charges do some damage but is in vein and the
survivors are left to flee the battlefield, commanderless. The destruction of all models bearing a mark
emits a glow form the predator as the fallen Thousand Sons crew entombed inside vanish forever.
RESULT:
Brown’s Necrons 15
           8 Brandon’s Chaos
After comments
James Brown: “Ace game, obviously happy with how I played. To be fair I had the dice gods on my
side, Mike didn’t hit when it counted and the psychic phase was less then impressive. Could have been
a close game. Champion!! If id made a double whammie I would have backflipped, but 1st and 2nd is
good enough. Was a quality tournament, and I steamrolled five games! Signing off!”
Mike Brandon: “Time to pass the 40k mittens once more, against an unlikely winner. Little I can say really, it’s
been a great tournament, with a big surprise. Its been my seventh final in a row though and 2nd is good enough, I
still rule 40k ha ha. As for the battle, I knew what Brown would do, but when it came down to it, id say I was a
little unlucky and he chose his targets well, which made the gap in the points. My army was geared to annihilate
Tyranids and so the Necrons turned out to be my toughest challenge., I never expected to face them but shit
happens! Keeping up appearances in the final is good enough, it’s been a fantastic tournament, good enough to
rival T2000. So hats off to Brown, he deserved it.”

Story End: The Imperial, Tyranid and Eldar forces are wiped out, the Orks have retreated save for a few
stragglers. The Chaos troops pull out, taking whatever resources they had managed to extract with them. Now
only the Necrons remain, watching, knowing that from here they can strike. Anywhere.
Tournament Close: Tournament number seven proved to be one of he best yet, certainly throwing up enough excitement
and surprises to rival the legendary Tournament 2000. We have an all new champion, and a surprise one at that, proving that the
Necrons aren’t just a sideline army and Brown isn’t a player to be taken lightly anymore, especially considering he’s the first
person to pick up every 40k award in one Tournament, in fact he’s the only persona to all of those awards ever! Charly’s first
round whitewash was a surprise and it left an opening for Luke and May to play out one of the best games of the Tournament as
the old rivals vied for a semi-final place. The Brown V Monovie semi was as close as it could be and Monovie came so close to
the final too. Who knows what these revelations will throw up in the coming OGC year…

Extras
Avartard
Quite what the plan of the Avatar was we’ll never know but here’s a low down of one of the worst
incarnations of Mensha-Kaine ever to walk the battlefields of the 41st millennium
Battle 1 – scares some cultists and then gets shot down
Battle 2 –goes down but kills a score of Tyranids in
the process including a Lictor and half a ‘stealer brood
Battle 3 – runs right, runs left, out of range with
Wailing Doom and then falls short on a charge. :-s
Battle 4 – Last survivor on the battlefield, but does nothing
Killed twice costing the Eldar 6 VP’s, and scoring just 3
back in return, proving once again…don’t bring out the
big toys unless you know what you’re doing!
^ In faraway Avatar heaven the battle continues…
