Captain's Log 120607
?????? ????! Its been a long time since I wrote one of these, reflecting
the rather chaotic incidents of my own life and generally getting waaay behind
on the stuff that needs producing for the OGC website. However, with the
Tournament looming it seems appropriate to give a little feedback as to what's
been going on in the world of OGC. Following the Winter Event in December
where we generally spent several days doing nought but 40k, the primary focus
in the new year was to set-up qualifying for the first time. That being, qualifying for the 40k
Tournament, following us finally achieving the 'Magic 8' number for last years 40k Tournament,
this time around we are in excess of applicants, so rather than increase the group size, which can be
unwieldy, the Tournament starts early. Basically the top 3 from last year (giving more meaning to
the third place play-off), are automatically entered, and then the next top 5 ranked players enter  a
group with the top 3 here also entering. Then there are open plays to decide the last few places,
meaning that some people will not make it to the finals next month, which in turn makes playing in
the Tournament just that bit more special. At time of writing there is one main qualifier left between
Mark Berkley, who made his 40k comeback in January, and Adam May, both have however already
qualified. There is also a qualification match in Leeds, to deny Tim Harness entry which is currently
uncontested meaning that regular Tournament contestants Luke Greensmith and Monovie Asita will
not both feature this year, whats more with outside entrants also in the wings, neither may actually
play. What am I rambling about really? Well, the concept of qualifying means that everyone is
represented in the Tournament in some way, but there is an increased emphasis and passion for
those who make it to the final eight and beyond. Elsewhere however, whilst the Magic Tournament
seems to be set to chug along as usual, and how do you play Magic again????, the Warhammer
Tournament is being looked upon in no favourable light whatsoever. After Brown's walk out last
year, and the general boredom of my final crowning, shoot magic shoot etc, nobody really wants to
play. However we must persevere and are at least setting some limitations, 1500 points for starters,
the show must go on as they say, even when its bad.
Also this month is the AGM, which is being re-branded as a formal way of discussing and
amending everything, however being set in the format of motions which are put forward and
debated there will be formal recorded of proceedings, rather than general table talk that someone
must commit to memory, and often doesn't. So that should be good. All in all, its all about the
Tournament so watch out for the realms of things that will be appearing both on and off the website!
Ps, I finished Final Fantasy XII yesterday . . . . . post FF depression sets in for another 5 years. . . .
