Captains Log - 031105
This is the first of an inconsistent account of OGC life, kind of like I used to
right in the editors comment in the magazine way back in 2004 (that seems like
an age away already!). Basically ill be looking over OGC in a light-hearted way
in the period since the last account, and as this is the first I don’t know where to
start so I guess ill just throw out some random notes on what’s been going.
Firstly hats off to our efforts in Edge Hill college, who’d have thought that one of my little infiltrations
would end up with such a decent group being formed, though it had initial teething problems. How
many times did I turn up and something was missing, I even forgot the posters once, wasting a long trip
from Liverpool :/ Anyway, Senior Luke has been given jurisdiction of this, with the title of Regional
Co-ordinator under our irritatingly formal new constitution. On that note the new constitution is just a
complicated way of saying how OGC works and with an ever-growing membership (that’s 48 on the
web board now!) I can no longer do everything. Time for the seniors to do some serious work :D
The next senior election results are in in just over a week, its becoming an increasingly more important
position so it’ll be interesting to see who gets in this time, though in truth anyone can turn up to seniors
board meetings and have a say (and a vote!), seniors just HAVE to do these things, so basically vote
who you think should be doing things on a compulsory bases. You can check the seniors role on the
about OGC page on our hallowed website.
In mid October I found some time to roll on down to Bristol to check on
things there, we don’t officially have an OGC group there but I’m sure it
could be set up quite easily. After several mishaps I finally found where I was
going and the few of us (that’s 2!) colonised a room and played Magic for
some hours. A poster strategy should work dividends there so ill be sending a
pack down to get Monovie in gear.
It’s tempting to go on about lots of things here but ill keep it strictly OGC, though I
cant help but mention my Sadako Halloween costume, most people had no idea
what it was but those who did loved it, and it was pretty fun walking around an
army base as a Japanese horror monster.
On a negative note there’s been something of a lull in 40k, our most staple game in
the society, though I guess it’s a venue problem but it needs sorting sharpish! I also
ran into our current 40k Champion in a bar the other day, Mr Brown had better not
be doing the disappear, reappear sick win again for T-2006!!! Also in 40k there’s
lots of debate over rules developments etc at the moment, I suggest anyone
interested reviews the CODEX updates in the 40k rules section of the website and voice their opinions
though I pretty much think we got CODEX Dark Eldar squared off, making two whole new OGC
developed CODEX’s with the Necrons as well.
Anyways, I’m off to Leeds for the weekend to check on how OGC is going up (and a bit to the right)
there.
Member of the Month: Gaz at Edge Hill, this guy has been instrumental in setting up the Edge Hill group,
and he doesn’t even have a vote yet. I’m sure we’ll be seeing much more of him in the future though!
Highlight of the Month: Ravinca’s release spurring much Magic interest
