Captains Log - 2706506
Tournament fever is well underway now as the opening games have played out, Brown proving
he’s not just a one-trick Necron by winning his opener whereas May and myself played out a
draw which Luke found to be a fascinating and entertaining game, it was certainly tense…and I
was soooo close to pitting real daylight between our scores! What a time for my proposed new
‘draw’ scoreline parameters to come into effect – robbing me of victory. Still I stand by it, the
game was pretty damn close. So 40k is pulling out the greatness as usual, however yesterday
evening saw the Warhammer opener between myself and Charly and the memories of why I’d
had no desire to play Warhammer at all in the last year came flooding back. The game was
always in my control but it was just horrible and got me thinking of just how difficult it is to have
a fun sporting game of the fantasy product. We’d gone from the tense, exhilarating battle earlier
between May and myself in 40k to the quagmire of rules technicalities and army imbalances
brought about by the poorly developed lists in Fantasy. Its generally a real showcase of how
much more fun the old second edition of 40k really is !!
So its set to be an exciting month and the next time I report in here it’ll be to review how
it all went. As it stands we’ve finally got a 40k Tournament of 8, including players who didn’t
qualify! We’ve got record numbers of entries into the Magic Tournament. Plus we’ve got
paintball to set up and the first real OGCamp trip out to Amsterdam at the end of July. And
there’s also the Warhammer Tournament….. Hopefully the sun will finally shine…every
tournament game has seen rain outside. If summer does decide to happen it’ll be outdoor games
and barbeques as 40k in Ormskirk gets its send off before myself and Brown sort out the
Liverpool scene from August onwards.

So enjoy a decent 4 weeks or so of OGC action! As a final thing, by request and in spirit
of the ‘other’ Tournament of the moment [and I’m not happy with Korea going out!], here’s a
comparison of the 40k Tournament players and World Cup teams…strange but well see for
yourself….
James Brown – Argentina
On fire on his day, but he has a history of failure and is out to disprove doubters once and for
all
Mike Brandon – Germany
Always at the top, no matter the form
Adam May – Brazil
Goes all out to hit hard and rack up big scores but is suckered against opponents who hit back
Simon Gray – Mexico
Poor history, but always a chance of form and out to prove he has the quality
Monovie Asita – Spain
Always shows quality and potential but always fails to achieve
Andrew Townley – England
Can beat below average opponents with some conviction but struggles against real quality
Luke Greensmith – Ukraine
Can cause a scare and a hit but resides in obscurity
Timothy Harness – Togo
Making a debut and with doubts whether he’ll play…and not really a contender when he does
